The barrage of polls and data that has been thrown at us this election season has been both overwhelming and bewildering to stay current with. However, deep in the annals of these polls, sometimes a golden ticket of understanding and promise emerges. For the past weeks, Big Media has been harping about the polling data in other countries about our election. They were bursting at the seems to release the startling information that the "enlightened" European countries were in the tank for Kerry. With confident posture, they reported that out of all the countries polled, the proverbial score was 27-3 countries for Kerry over Bush. The cable news organizations flashed the data on the screen, without further examination other than to show the shocking numbers to come out of French. But they forgot to tell you which 3 were for Bush: Russia, Iran, and Israel.
These three countries may be as diametrically opposed as any combination, but the wishes of their people draw some similarities: freedom and security. With the recent tragedies in Russia, it may be understood that terror is at the forefront of their hearts and minds. Russians watched the sons and daughters of their country being taken hostage in a school for days and saw death totals rise to the point that is still being determined. They have fought the likes of Chechen rebels, in addition to other acts of Muslim radicalism even when they were the agressors, and understand as well as anyone the threat that the modern world faces.
Perhaps the country that favors Bush that will actually get some analysis is Iran. The media will harp about how Bush's policy has supposedly emboldened their nuclear program, however there is something deeper in question here. This poll was not taken of high ranking government officials, so the nuclear issue is not in play, the poll was taken of citizens. The citizens of Iran have been unhappy with their government since the 1980's and many reports have shown an unrest in their citizenry. Could it be that the Iranian citizens support Bush because they feel he will take a proactive stand in gaining them the freedom that they will soon see with binoculars over the Iraqi border? Bush has never included the citizens of Iraq, Iran, or North Korea in the axis of evil, only their government... and perhaps the people of Iran agree.
The final country of three that support Bush is Israel. The implications and justification for this are immense, but may be easily determined in the Israelis' understanding of terrorism. Throughout his Presidency, President Bush has refused to acknowledge Arafat as a World Leader and condemned him to be a terrorist appeaser. This much different than President Clinton who held regular talks with him, and Arafat's wife actually threw Hillary a fundraiser for her Senate Campaign. In 2002, when the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade released an onslaught of bombings all over Israel, Bush condemned the attacks as acts of terrorism, while Big Media was condemning him for taking Israel's side instead of playing referee like their revered Clinton. These actions are not lost on the Israeli people, they have a deep regard for strength and courage in the face of terrorism. Bush is the first President who has openly endorsed the implementation of a Palestinian state, so long as it is free and democratic. Despite the politics in Israel, and the infighting of Sharon with his own Likud Party and their Gaza pull-out, President Bush has stood strong in favor of Israel. Big Media considers this to be an indication of his master religious scheme, that he is a fundamentalist Zionist who believes that Jesus will return to Earth only to a Jewish State of Israel. This is a farfetched theory at best, considering the only support for this theory is that he is A. religious and B. supports Israel. These criteria give him moral clarity in the belief that Israel has the right to defend Herself from terrorists and angry Palestinians it is a shame that liberals cannot confront this issue with such clarity of who is the protagonist in this story.
I am suprised that not even Fox has devoted much time to analyzing why these countries support Bush. Much can be said about the plight of these countries, and that perhaps they best understand the post 9/11 world, and that is why they support the man who will best prosecute this War on Terror.
