Smoking Gun at FOX News

Smoking Gun at FOX News

Yesterday, I released to an expectant world a smoking gun-memo from Bill Keller, Executive Editor of the New York Times.

Today, I reveal to you another smoking gun, this memo from Bob Kaganoff, Political News Director, FOX News.

Memo To FOX News Staff: It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave.

I do not want to set off an endless colloquy that none of us have time for today, nor do I want to stifle one. Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.

The Washing Times, the Weekly Standard and John Charlson at LittleBlueFootfalls on the Web make the same point today: the current Kerry-Edwards attacks on President Bush involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Bush has done. Bush distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win.

We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides "equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.

I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Kerry-Edwards efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying President Bush at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Mr. Bush to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right. [signed] Bob Kaganoff

I invite you to compare this FOX news memo with the October 8, 2004 memo of Mark Halperin, Political News Director of ABC News.

It seems that Mr. Kaganoff was too lazy to write his own memo and simply changed names in Mr. Halperin's memo.

I propose that Mr. Kaganoff of FOX News be tarred and feathered and rode outta town on a rail. Same goes for Mark Halperin, the loathsome bunch of pseudo-newspeople at ABC News, and their sinister abettors in the media.

What are you talking about. I seriously doubt anyone at Fox wrote this memo.

What are you up to?

This is a riff on the ABC memo, right? I didn't read the ABC memo so I can't tell if you've just changed the news org and names to make a point. If your point is that everyone (on the left) would be outraged if FOX issued such a memo then I take your point.

I find it difficult to accept that Fox News would do this-- especially with Greta Van Sustern, Geraldo Rivera, and Bill O'Reilly on board.

Further, I doubt they would plaigarize from ABC's Halperin.

I noticed Davis' about page says he joined Free Republic in 1999.

However, this individual article still has a faint aroma of Purina Kitten Chow.

Going to the hyperlink, the author earlier created a fake memo showing the NYT to be biased, Dan Rather style, and he is doing something like that here too.

It is pretty confusing though...

This is either bogus, or a joke. No way would somebody at FOX do this seriously.
