Democratic Underground WHO IS WELCOME ON DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, AND WHO IS NOT
We welcome Democrats of all stripes, along with other progressives who will work with us to achieve our shared goals.
This is a "big tent" message board. We welcome a wide range of progressive opinion. You will likely encounter many points of view here that you disagree with.
We ban conservative disruptors who are opposed to the broad goals of this website. If you think overall that George W. Bush is doing a swell job, or if you wish to see Republicans win, or if you are generally supportive of conservative ideals, please do not register to post, as you will likely be banned.
If you have been banned from Democratic Underground, you are not permitted to log on again using a different username. Previously banned members will be immediately banned, regardless of behavior.
People who repeatedly and willfully break the rules, or who generally engage in rude, antisocial behavior, will be banned. It doesn't matter if you are a progressive or a long-term member of this board.
Free Republic Posting Guidelines Broadly stated, the goals of this site are to further conservatism, expose political corruption, and recover a truly constitutional form of government. If these are not your goals, you may find another discussion site more suitable.
Free Republic expects users to follow a few simple posting guidelines (described below) and by posting to the forum you and others agree to abide by them. While Free Republic is not edited or censored, it does reserve the right to remove any postings that are considered inappropriate. Examples of inappropriate posts are those that are off-subject or contain advertising, pornography, obscene material, racist material, Nazi (or other hate group) material, materials promoting violence, threats or illegal acts, etc.
These guidelines are intended to help maintain a useful amount of order in a large site like this and to promote better posting. They may be revised without notice. Users of Free Republic should also understand that this is a privately owned, not-for-profit site and that they are guests here. The owner reserves the right to revoke posting privileges and, when necessary, to permanently ban individuals.
Actually, there's a lot of love here and a lot of caring. Out of the 4 (four) threads I've posted since I joined in April, 2001, one was for prayer for my ex-husband who has leukemia.
What got my spidey sense tingling? It was the kvetching about FR. After 15 days, you're an expert on how a website should be setup?
Two vanities in 15 days! Why don't you read some of the threads other's have provided for you. I believe one of them is a thread by an Admin Mod about posting vanities.
Always somewhere.
Gotta get the paver cleaned out from use earlier on gaba and 'sexxy joe'..
They kinda left a mess.
*shuddering*
But when you guys needs us, we're nearby.
They do ban libs.
However, we do have a few Democrats that are actually here for the atmosphere, debate, and a place to relax.
They're the Conservative Democrats that the Dem party forgot.
Usually, though, Dems don't come here to debate, exchange rational ideas, or merely chat, but come here to disrupt instead.
There were several instances of Liberal Dems showing up merely to post pics of gay porn.
As if that had anything to do with rational debate.
So they were just there to cause a stir.
Light 'em up!
I have no fear of your everprescence not a troll am I.
I just stand back and watch in awe of the power that is to beheld.
Just keep an eye on this one lots of tingly senses goin 'round.
Your finger still itchy Mike?
Yup...
Baaah, I'm just 'another guy' wandering through the threads.
I also, oddly, seem to be a troll magnet at times.
I have no reason to believe you're a troll.
(Now jj_fate.. THERE was an obvious troll! *LOL!*)
JJ's continuing after-expiring party can be found through keyword 'undeadthread'..
Or one could ping you to there.
(It's now a humor thread/ intel on troll exchange. Though such exchanging has been light recently due to troll activity being higher than previously seen. Ugh, election year troll spikes!)
They like to play word games as usual and hide behind the term 'Progressives'.
As a liberal(old-style Classical), I myself favour the term 'Progressives' for those advocating a revolutionary change to society.
After having spent a significant amount of time on both FR and DU, there is definitely a difference in the banning policies.
It's true that there are few leftists openly posting on FR, but there are some like liberallary. But he can take the heat in any discussion he gets involved in.
NO conservatives are allowed to post on DU.
Not only are no conservatives allowed to post on DU, but no "regular Democrats" are allowed to post either, nor anyone who has too alternative a view (like a Nader supporter). OTOH, there are a lot of people on FR who I would say can be called Republicans but they're not really conservatives. But that's okay since the Republican Party welcomes all. Also, FR allows alternative views like the libertarians whereas DU does not allow any libertarian thought, even that which is of the more liberal variety.
There is not nearly as much diversity of opinion on DU because you are not allowed too far off the plantation. If you don't believe 9/11 was a Bush conspiracy then you won't last long on DU.
What's a "regular Democrat?"
The average person who votes Democrat. Such a person may be against things like same-sex marriage and they may support the war on terrorism, but they may be blue-collar Union supporters.
Not all Democrats are leftists. The Democrat PARTY is leftist, but that's why they're losing support. My father was insulted when I tied his political views (the few that he shares) with those espoused on DU. But my father is a union man and he's black and he just doesn't trust Republicans. Most black people aren't leftists, although the highly touted activists are. But the average black Democrat voter is not a leftist. They just don't trust Republicans.
Other "average Democrats" would be a majority of Catholics.
These sorts of people are NOT welcome on DU because they don't obsess over the 2000 election, they don't think Bush caused 9/11, they believe in God and they support things like school vouchers.
Thanks for the explanation.
I agree about most blacks not being leftists, and your take on their not trusting Republicans.
I find that there are also many people who refer to themselves as "liberals" and vote Democratic who are not really leftists either. Or if they are, they don't understand that leftist philosophy is totalitarian by nature.
I've not been to DU, but it sounds like a bad place, set up for the Left, I guess.
Thanks for the tips guys. I appreciate the assist in helping me find my way around. And yes Sally, expect a lot more vanities as I become an even more proficient FReeper. Also, I will squeeze in some quality content now and then.
Yep!
I'm still around...but that's because, politically, I don't belong anywhere. I'm a curmudgeon, a contrarian, an equal opportunity insulter. Without much effort, I could get banned from any site.
Yeah--riiiiight.
They won't allow anyone who is not a member to even view their message boards today, not to register.
"not" = "nor"
