Sorry (Liberal) Local NewspapersThread
My little brain | October 6, 2004 | telastvirgil

I am starting a thread on worthless, liberal local newspapers. Jump in with your favorite -- or least-favorite.

TOPICS: Local News; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: dailyrags; fishwrap; liberal; liberalrag; localnewspapers; useless
I am kicking off my list with my own local rag, "The Jonesboro Sun", Jonesboro, Ar. Except for obituaries from the northeast Arkansas area, wedding announcements, and court and police reports, 98% of this publication is taken directly off the AP wire. They, as far as I can tell, have one part-time reporter that covers city council, county quorum court, and zoning board meetings. Their editiorial page is nothing but liberal drivel; every syndicated columnist is anti-Bush, anti-America, or worse. Example in point: Charley Reese three mornings a week. Reese's biggest problem is he can't figure out who he hates most; President Bush, Israel, or America in general.

Second on my list is the "Paragould Daily Press"; a local paper from just up the road that is so liberal it reeks.

Both these rags are available, free, online. Take a look, then add your own choice for Fishwrap of The Day.

The Herald News, Passaic County, NJ

Always a crying Arab after some terrorists are justly sent to their maker.

Those two, obviously, go without saying. I'm interested more in smalltown local rags. Ours is just shameless in it's bias. To the editor's credit, he has always posted my letters of protest, and thre have been many. I have prompted much debate on the Charley Reese issue -- many folks, here, feel as I do -- to no avail; still insisting on running his barf.

The Jackson citizen patriot in Jackson Mi.

The editor has a fixation on racism that knows exists but admmits she can't find. She once wrote that in her ideal world, if a crime is committed, bystanders won't be able to tell police the race of a suspect because they won't notice.

The Modesto Bee is definitely worth a mention. Like your paper, its 99% AP reprint but that doesn't stop them from lording it around like they are the New York Times.

Most recently they applauded the government boobs in a small town near Modesto for 'taking on' Wal-Mart and opposing a new super store that would have brought jobs and sales tax. Then, in the same editorial, supported an increase in the local sales tax for that same town! Think about it.

The Albany (NY) Times Union, mouthpiece of the dying reminants of the Erastus Corning Democratic machine. The other major local, the Schenectady Gazette, has a center-left editorial position, seems to report the news fairly, and carries columnists from both sides of the fence.
The Times Useless is nothing but left-wing spin and liberal claptrap. It's sometimes entertaining to see how each paper reports the same story.
And then there's "Metroland," the local 'alternative newsweekly.' They make the TU look like The American Spectator!!
Their editorial position is somewhere to the left of Michael Moore, their articles are worse, and their "Personals" pull-out section is absolute filth (this is coming from a Pagan, mind you!)
Their "Personals" consist of pages of "hook up" ads(for every lifestyle) and classified ads for prostitutes and chat lines. Eeeewww!!!
