Hi fellow Freepers. I just got this e-mail from one of my misguided Liberal Dem friends. I don't know how to answer this, because, I don't know if it's true. Does anyone out there have some info on this? Is it a Democratic dirty trick, playing on the fears of mothers everywhere? I would love to reply to my friend with some concrete information. I know Israel has a mandatory draft, and it's a good thing, but I'm not sure how well it would go over here in USA.
Your help my lovable pj bloggers, is desperatly needed.
BOTH ARE INTRODUCTED, SPONSORED, AND SIGNED ON TO BY DEMOCRATS... NOT REPUBLICANS!!!
Go to www.house.gov or www.senate.gov. They're right there for your liberal friends to read. Trust me, as long as Republicans hold the house and senate, those bills will die in committee.
If Kerry is elected you will see so many people leave the military that there will have to be a draft. The best way to avoid a draft is to reelect Bush.

This bill is stuck in committee and will stay there. It is a Democrat bill where the intent is not to bolster the armed forces, but to force military service on as many families as possible.
That's how the Democrats want to end war... by forcing any U.S. military action too include draftees.

BINGO. This is not about defense. It is about the destruction of the family.
Dear Wonderama,
Dammocraps all.
McDermott recently lost a legal battle pertaining to the illegal taping of private conversatons. Conyers is one step away from being a Communist, and Stark is the meanest, foulest congresscritter currently in office - he cussed out a Republican a few years back in a House committee hearing. He's a true POS.
And of course, Chuckie Rangel never met a Republican he didn't hate and a welfare program or race pimp he didn't love.
These are a few of the real dregs of the Dammocrap Party.

THIS IS A DEM DIRTY TRICK!!
This is what a lot of my friends who are in college have been talking about. I havent seen the document until now. This explains it.
This is what they (The DNC) are using to sway younger voters AGAINST Bush.
Do we have some sort of rapid response team? Can someone post a Q/A on the Bush website we can refere them to?
Can you imagine if we really had liberal democrats drafted. Lord have mercy it would be cruel and unusual punishment for those of us who do serve.
I agree this is Democrat BS.
However, it shows how far we have come that it horrifies folks that our young citizens might be called on to do battle with those who would murder our children while they slept if they could.
Why would a lottery with no exemption be too horrible to contemplate? We share the danger, why not share the burden?
Yes, these are pending, and YES, they have rabid Demon-rats sponsoring them. There is NO plan that I've heard of throughout the army to re-institute the draft. The Army would have to ramp up the number of Drill Sergeants and training companies, just like the other services. There is always a push for more Drill Sergeants, but there is no more pressure for them than any other time.
IMHO (I am just a lowly E-7): no draft
Stay Safe
Democrats make me spell bad.
Your "friend" should support this legislation, his people wrote it.
And, no, this administration repeatedly swats down the draft rumor, which the Dems trot out regularly to sow dissent. The military doesn't want people who are unqualified and unwilling in this fight.
Your liberal friend should also know there are things far worse than war.
Chuck Rangel bump. He's been spouting the draft ever since Afghanistan. He knows the Pentagon doesn't want it.
"Mr. Speaker:
"I am an original cosponsor of the Rangel/Conyers bill, the Universal National Service Act of 2003 (HR 163), which would reinstate a national draft. I would like to explain my support for this legislation. I ardently oppose war with Iraq....
"Reinstituting the draft may seem unnecessary to some. But, it will ensure all Americans share in the cost and sacrifice of war. Without a universal draft, this burden weighs disproportionately on the shoulders of the poor the disadvantaged and minority populations....
"It is my understanding that out of the 435 Members of this House and the 100 members of the Senate, only one -- only one -- has a child in active military service. Who are we to know the pain of war when we ourselves will not directly bear the brunt of that action?...."

Get the idea? It was never going to happen - they are just making a$$es out of themselves.
There is a draft bill. John Conyers and Charlie Rangel are the main pushers of it. They aren't republicans last I checked....
There are currently twelve draft bills in Congress - so, yes, you should be worried if you have kids who would be affected by this legislation.
So what if there is a draft???? Are the children of any era exempt from serving??? Rest of us did. If needed, let them share the burden.
Let me help you out...
If they start up the draft...its not the end of the world...I for one know many many spoiled rich kids who could use the steel toe boot of drill sgt driven far up their asses...
ie: So what...and yes...I do have kids...a 17 year old son and 15 year old daughter...
I say bring it on...
This bill is dead in commitee and has been for a while.
It is a bill sponsored by liberal democrats (look at the sponsors) to scare people.
But to answer your question, YES - the draft is certainly possible, and that's not necesarily a bad thing. I have spoken to many young adults who insist that the draft is 'political suicide.'
I'm not so sure - if 4 or 5 US cities, for example, suffered limited nuclear strikes (the 1 kiloton range) with a total body count of 250,000 (and another 1/2 million injured), and the nukes are traced to two or three nations that sponsor terror - that immediately opens up two or three new fronts in the war.
It seems to me in that situation it would be political suicide to NOT go to war, and to NOT draft an army to support that war.
I don't think women will be drafted in any renewed draft, in any case. The GOP won't be for it (and they control and will control Congress for the forseeable future), and most dems will be too afraid to support it - if you think the mommies of america will flip because they son's are hauled to war, how will they react when they precious daughters are hauled off to war?
Rnough of the men of the USA don't want women in harms way, and enough of the women in the USA don't want to be in harms way. No women's draft (call us sexist).
Women will continue to be able to enlist, of course, as they may now.
