I said earlier today that they might be tracking down the secretary. But there is a problem.....according to the Houston Chronicle...(Carr) Knoxx told them last week that she did NOT have first hand knowledge of the claims she made against Bush yesterday.

The memos are fake...but Rather will run her out as a witness...to what was NOT actually written. Not only is it a reach on CBS's behalf....It will be exposed when people point out what she said to the Houston Chronicle.

Okay so the 86 year old woman is going to looked at the forged memos and say, "yep that's what I remember 'bout that boy who was selected and not elected" and Rather will turn to the camera and say that this is an important new development in proving the memo's authenticity. Hey, who's got the balls to question the old lady, right Dan?

They say you should never watch sausage being created and I guess you shouldn't watch news being created either.

Innocent old ladies do not quote angry DNC talking points word for word like "Bush was selected, not elected." Knox may be 86 years old, but she's about as nonpartisan as Bob Shrum.

Didn't Ms. Knox say that she had heard "buzz" around the office similar to what was in the memos, but the memos themselves are frauds? Sounds like Rather is trying to refocus attention back on the "content" of the memos, that is, the charges, and away from the the memos themselves.

Know has changed her story one already.

When SHE first contacted the press she claimed the memos were fake and that she couldn't recall LT Bush.

A couple of days later she claimed that the memos were fake BUT that the content was accurate; that Col. Killian did have reservations about LT Bush and kept a CYA file.

What a shame she probably won't have that many years to enjoy her new luxury condo in Palm Beach.

Rather will skip the fraud statement and instead lead with: "While Ms. Knox did not type the memos herself, she heard ..."

Interviewing her from before noon till 5:45pm?.... Thats not a interview it's an interrogation....
He's asking this poor old woman the same questions over and over and waiting for her to get confused and say something he can use...
Christ I hope she has a lawyer with her.. or Ole Dan-no will have her admitting SHE forged them...

Time for Killian's son to step up and speak some more. I don't think this old bag's "memory" is to be trusted.

they are flying her to New York to be available at the press conference or to be interviewed on air by Dan Rather. That is why there has been a delay.

IF Knox is important to CBS' forged docs, then they should have interviewed her *prior* to airing their charges against the President.

Furthermore, instead of wasting time interviewing her now, CBS needs to be exposing the source of the forged military documents and cooperating with federal prosecutors in the investigation.

Let me get this straight.

CBS is accused of being biased, presenting forged documents without making a serious attempt to verify their validity, and only using statements that back up their biased views and ignoring opposing opinions.

They say it isn't so then to put the record straight they plan to interview an 86 year old partisan democrat?

CBS is not just biased.....They are extremely stupid.

I've been saying it's like when perpetrators of fraudulent hate crimes are caught. They always whine that while the "crime" may technically be fake, it could have happened, and that's the real story.

He's acting more and more like Nixon in August '74.

Delusional Dan to the NY Observer:

"In terms of the experts, you’re going to find an equal number of experts on the authenticity arguments," he said. "I don’t think that’s going to resolve the argument."

He is probably the only person in America who believes that. Pssst...Dan, there are NO experts who say these things are authentic. Not one!

A couple of days later she claimed that the memos were fake BUT that the content was accurate

You mean she's a flip-flopper?

This Knox story won't fly for a couple of other reasons: 1) CBS' credibility is shot to hell (except among the Bush-Bashing Kool-Aid drinkers), and 2) ultimately, voters don't really give a rat's patootie about what Bush did or didn't do in the ANG 30+ years ago. This is what the left doesn't get! -- they actually think Bush's Guard record is relevant to this campaign! It's not. Bush has never made his record an issue; these "favortism/AWOL" rumors have been kicking around for years, and no one really seems to care (other than the Bush-bashers); and everyone knows that Bush's youth was hardly exemplary, but that he'd experienced a renewal in his later life which, essentially, matured him as a person. CBS should simply "move on."

Vanity: Killian's ex-secretary came forward last week to corroborate the CBS story
Houston Chronicle ^ | 9/15/04

Posted on 09/15/2004 12:32:58 AM PDT by ambrose

We have now seen a slew of interviews with Marian Carr Knox, 86, former secretary to Lt. Col. Jerry Killian.

Her story seems to shift with each new interview - and becoming increasingly negative towards Bush.

What's the deal with this lady?

I have an answer, and it is quite simple. It was told to us in the Houston Chronicle today, but it was buried in disjointed paragraphs.

To start out with, Knox contacted the Houston Chronicle herself. They did not find her - she found them. What did she have to tell them last week?

Knox said last week she had not seen the disputed documents obtained by CBS, but was reacting to news reports challenging their authenticity, primarily by countering claims that Killian did not keep copies.

Last week, Knox said she had no firsthand knowledge of Bush's time with the Texas Air National Guard, although she did recall a culture of special treatment for the sons of prominent people, such as Bush and others.

So there you have it. Last week, she came forward to SUPPORT the CBS story against charges that Killian did not keep a personal file.

She disclaimed any personal knowledge of W's time in the Guard - Her only mission last week was to corroborate CBS's claim that Killian kept personal 'CYA" files.

For whatever reason, the Chronicle chose to not run her story last week.

By today, the documents had been completely discredited. So now she comes forward to state the obvious: these documents ARE bogus... BUT HOLD ON... she now suddenly has knowledge about Bush's time in the Guard, and these fake documents really just represent the things that were said in the "real" documents.

Got it now? That's her deal.

This whole thing is so Clintonian. What intelligent person would swear by the "content" of forgeries? Do we now need to parse a newsman's statements word for word?
Sidney Blumenthal, Carville, and Begala, and that horrid lawyer, David Kendall should be proud. What a legacy Billy Jeff left the libs everywhere.

Wait. If they do have Knox on what to bet that she doesn't look like everyone's idea of a sweet, honest God fearing grandmother?
