Today I saw a black bird fall dead from the sky. I was pulling into the Pet Smart parking lot right there next to the Reliant Stadium when something in the sky caught my eye. It fell for quite a ways and hit the parking lot. I pulled up to it and it was a black bird. I think they call them ravens here. Anyway, there were no power lines or anything anywhere above the bird, so it must have died while flying in mid-air.
The first thing I thought of was West Nile virus. The only other thing I can think of is that a hawk (if there are hawks here) dropped it or that the bird had a massive heart attack.
Wierd.
I went into Pet Smart and let the lady there know. Apparently we are supposed to report any dead bird that we find, wherever that may be. I didn't know that. She called whoever and reported it for me.
Texas?
This was supposed to go to the portion of the forum that relates to Texas. Sorry, I'm new here!
'Ee's not dead. Ee's just pinin' for the fjords.
Flying dead bird ping.
I'm not from your area, but the people you want to contact are likely the county health department.
If they are looking for dead birds to check for west nile, they prefer "fresh" ones and if it just fell out of the sky they don't get much fresher...
Blackbird flyin' in the dead of night...
If it is YES...we've had West Nile Virus here for 3 years.
Remember SAMBUCOL by Nature's Way...it can be bought at most health food stores. I've found the best price at Whole Food. That's one great virus fighter....knocks flu dead...and lots of other things like colds, sinus infection and west nile....great stuff.
"Can you say the sky is falling"
Ain't nothing new to Harris County!
I know I live in Huffman!
Yes, Houston. I know that there is WNv here but I've never seen a bird drop dead while flying before and wanted to share! :-)
That, and to see if anyone else has noticed a bunch of dead birds in this area. I live right next to where the bird fell and would like to know if there's a higher risk than usual.
I tried to post this to Texans only but apparently it didn't work out. Where did I go wrong?
