Relax...it will be ok. Four months from now, when the photo's come out of John Kerry committing his little "atrocities" over in Vietnam...like screwing a goat or a dead vietnamize corpse...his career will be over.

I don't see it as a big deal either, especially if he mentions that "memos have been leaked from congress recently and there has been a lot of partisan wrangling over everything the Predsident does, therefore we didn't want it to jeopardize our criminal investigation, so we left you out of the loop. Sorry!"
I would love to see their faces if he said something to that effect!
Regardless, I still don't think it will be a big deal. They will hoot and hollar and the press will have multiple orgasms for about a week, but Bush's poll numbers won't take significant hits and the press will move on to the next item to try to smear Bush with. Of course, the terrorists could help out a bit by pulling another hostage killing or dragging some more of our people through the streets and we can let the public see that and have those images to compare to the ones of the "humilitation" of those poor prisoners! </sarcasm>

So we should be doing more of what was shown in those pictures?
War is messy and dirty. If you don't want to get dirty, don't get involved in a war. If you get involved in a war, surrender or fight to win. War is messy and dirty; it always has been. There is no such thing as a clean war.

I thought Reno should have resigned right after all those Americans were killed in Waco. It was a sickening and disgusting thing for her to be involved in killing so many toddlers and mothers. Yeeeeeesh

NY Times is reporting on pictures of DEAD Iraqi prisoners who appeared to be mistreated. He certainly shouldn't apologize for things that likely didn't happen. Those are unproven at this point and could be Iraqis injured in the war or from their own actions. If Rumsfield wants to apologize that Arabs have been humiliated by some abuse like being photographed with panties on their heads, that's okay.

Unless Rumsfeld ordered the abuse, he should not apologizeHe is the senior man at the Department of Defense, and these soldiers wore the uniform of the US military.
He's still accountable for their actions.

When someone you know dies for this crap then get back to me! I'm a citizen, and that all the credentials I need to address this issue.
We either fight a war or go home.
Should we be doing more of what was shown in those pictures?
To: Poohbah
Right you are. It amazes me when folks try to rationalize this stuff.

"As much as we want it to go away, this won't. The whole thing is nauseating. We've lost a ton of leverage and Old Europe is rejoicing. This can't drag on."
Altho this is a mess....and apologies really are necessary, I think we should all be grateful for the fact that it could backfire on Kerry...and more importantly, the timing is in our favor. There are still 6 months left until the election...time enough for this to cool off.

Fitz, have you even read what has actually happened? It was an American soldier who reported this to his superiors.
Before you post an answer like that, make sure you know the facts.

Just wait until the gloves come off.

Surely after 4 months of investigation he must know who what, where and why's behind all of this. Problably his secrecy was his way of playing all his cards close to his vest. A Rummy apology maybe just a soft ball toss to begin a series of strike out (no see'm) pitches... I Hope..

To: kcvl
How do you know he's going to apologize? Just wondering....

These prisoners are the worst of the worst. They are hired 'insurgents' who came to Iraq expressly to KILL American troops. In your effort to make excuses for the disgusting scum who brought this dishonor on our services you are getting way ahead of what we know. What we do know is that many of the abused prisoners were Iraqi's.

Sarcasm aside, what's your answer: yes or no?
To: kcvl
This is a case of a time when humility and an apology for the wrongs done are the exact RIGHT THING TO DO.
