Researcher's Study of Twins Bolsters 'Gateway Theory' (For Early Marijuana Use)
Medscape ^ | 2003 | Brown University Behavior Letter

Many studies have examined the "gateway" theory, that marijuana use at a young age leads to use of harder drugs as a person grows older. While there is a general consensus among studies that those who use marijuana are much more likely to use hard drugs and that hard drug users usually use marijuana first, there is lively debate surrounding the reasons for these dynamics.

Either one. You are in favor of this?

That is not conservativism.

Your piss-poor grammar makes it impossible to answer your "question."

Not at all. Are you in favor of government spending on military? Have you been to the South Bronx lately? If you can answer "yes" to both questions, then by your own definition, you, my friend, are a liberal.

If you want to die and are physically incapable of offing yourself, you should be able to recruit help.

Coool. While we are at it, we should legalize the killing of babies who are incapable of caring for themselves, right? It's such a bother waiting for them to die from starvation on their own.

Well, I'm not a big fan of the WOD. I see no positive results. But IMO if MJ is decriminalized the price would likely rise significantly--resulting in pot dealers forced to look for 'work' elsewhere, lower their price or start selling even harder drugs. I doubt if the number of users would increase much.

On the other hand, decriminalizing it could also open the door to a barrage of lawsuits against the FDA, or whatever body would regulate its sale.

Do you think there are lots of people just waiting to indulge in marijuana if only it was legal?

It is the general observation on this website that those with no valid intelligent comback tend to focus on spelling/grammatical errors.

That being said, "You are in favor of this?" was not a typo and is a perfectly understandable sentence. The "Does this mean" at the beginning is implied. Perhaps you are just not smart enough to understand this.

hey, I guess I am. I am a big supporter of the Military,
I also believe in a strong gov't, but smaller gov't
and what the Hell does the South Bronx have anything to do with it

your constant support of the WOD, just shows, that like all liberal's you favor big gov't, just like hillary it takes a village.

"Thank God pot is illegal or we would have a much bigger problem."

Dude. Talk to young people. They do pot, because it is EASIER to get, than booze.

Just have to address a couple of things in your post. I hope you meant that if "MJ" were decriminalized that the price would fall, not rise. This stuff grows like the weed that it is, and if it weren't for the criminality of it anyone could grow it in their garden next to the basil and tomatoes.

As for the number of users, if it were legal I would use it much more often than my current 4-times-a-decade habit.

Think about it:

The pot dealers that you and I are really concerned about -the ones that sell to kids - would not go away. They would simply switch suppliers (from the distributor to the drug store) and either charge the same markup or even lower their price. Think about it. Pushers do not make $20 off of every dime bag they sell. They make a markup from what the dealer sells it to them for. They would be better off if pot is legal.

Do you think there are lots of people just waiting to indulge in marijuana if only it was legal?

I don't know about you, but I know plenty of law-abiding people who tried pot for the first time when they visited Amsterdam. My own sainted mother is one of them.

No, jackass, two concepts were being discussed, suicide and euthanasia. You posited the question, "You are in favor of this?", apparently in reference to the two concepts being discussed.

A more readable (and answerable) question would have been, "You in favor of suicide?", or "You are in favor of euthanasia?", or "You are in favor of these?"

Idiot.

I talk to young people all the time. They smoke pot because either (a) they prefer it, of (b) it is more readily concealed (and therefore brought onto school grounds. The idea that kids will have less access to pot when it is legal is a complete non-starter.

And if pot were made legal here in the US, they would start smoking to the point of incapacitation and "inevitable" experimentation with other, harder drugs?

The idea that kids will have less access to pot because of the WOD is, as has been shown beyond dispute, a complete non-starter.

It's my understanding that if decriminalized pot would be under government regulation and it would be taxed. This is going to decrease cost?? And would it not still be illegal to cultivate it in private?

See, this is what I am talking about. You have no capacity for intelligent rebuttal, so you continue to fixate on grammatical points. Keep it up. When you are finished New York 4th graders will be reading on a 4th grade level and pot will still be illegal.

Oh, and you have bumped a thread establishing scientific proof for the so-called Gateway "Theory" over 50 times now. Keep up the good work.

Who's the idiot now?

They assumed that twins, having been raised in the same household, would have environmental experiences that were highly concordant.

And that's where they screwed up.
