I take the good with the bad on Bush. He is only one man and can only do so much, I would rather support him and any of his failings then some candidate who has no chance.

Bush is far from ideal. I get angry with him quite often. But when I think back over the Carter and Bush presidencies, the thought of another Dem president absolutely terrifies me. At least Republican presidents don't set out to destroy America.

I agree! I once called Illbay FR's little ray of sunshine in response to a particularly cranky post of his, and he actually kind of apologized. I miss him :(

Based on the abuse record for this thread, I don't see any moderator action listed, which probably means Jim took it out himself (not 100% certain there, but generally that is what it means).

And reading that post, I am pretty sure it was a single, solitary word that got the post pulled. I bet if you look at your self-search (where you can still see the reply) you'll be able to see which word, even if you weren't meaning to use it to impugn blacks.

I disagree. It is fiction.

People hit abuse because they get tired of dealing with jerks, because of vulgarity, because they are having a bad hair day, because they want to troll the moderators (happens more than you would ever imagine), because of racism or bigotry, because they spot scams, because of long running feuds that they no longer see objectively, because they meant to hit reply and hit the wrong link, and so on.

The percentage of abuse reports that flow in that could by any stretch of the imagination be considered as possibly being because they can't defend their position is, if I had to make an estimate, well below 1%.

Seeing as, on threads where there is a Zot, one can hit the history link at the top and see the original post, are you sure you want to try to suggest that 'libertarians' are the ones getting Zotted?

I mean, anyone could go to those Zot threads then and read the original. Are you sure you want them going "so that is what being a libertarian is nowadays"?

Jim, your site is always going to engender an emotional hook that is endearing to most all and tormenting to others.

I got wise the first time I came here ... Billie posted an animated GIF of a chimpanzee jumping around and labeled it "Hey Ash, your mother is calling."

FR has singularly weilded that level of surprise and delight since back then and ... no other BBS I've ever seen has provided the tools and resources for wise asses to use image, animation and paint weaponry ... within the standard interface ... to be really really evil wise asses.

Do you know how it is that I manage to hold on to positive opinions about all the members of a given set of posters, when they clearly mutually despise one another? It's because I'm usually smart enough to stay right the hell off the sort of threads where everybody decides to let it all hang out and settle old scores - out of sight, out of mind ;)
