The Design Inference Game
03/03/03 | Moi

Posted on 03/03/2003 8:27:25 AM PST by general_re

I thought a new thread was a good idea, and here seems to be a good place to put it, so as not to clutter up "News". The only topic available was "heated discussion", though. ;)

If any clarification about the pictures is needed, just say so, and I will try to at least highlight the part that I am interested in for you. Remember that I'm interested in the objects or structures or artifacts being represented, so don't be thrown off if the illustrations seem abstract.

Thank you for all the information!

I particularly like the phrase "range of utility of human thought" - range is much better than boundary!

Thank you and hugs!

Thank you so much for your posts and for the link to the article!

In my view, the phrase "under God" is a matter of Truth; the origin of the sentiment - the Declaration of Independence - is a matter of historical fact.

Ancient texts, illustrations, tomb and temple paintings, old tools and artifacts that have been dug up, examimation of their buildings for tool marks, etc. There are people who specialize in such things. I'm not one of them.

Actually they do not know at all how they were built. A year or two back they were proposing kites as a way in which the pyramids might have been built. This shows to me at least that there are indeed no records as to the technology used in building the pyramids.

Your arrangement of the confidence in different disciplines is interesting. My one change might be the moving up of Metaphysics and Philosophy up above the historical 'sciences'. Philosophy relies a lot on logic and the concept of non-self contradiction which establishes some discipline on its practitioners. The historical sciences seem to put no constraints at all on the authors since there is such a great volume of 'evidence' from which to sift and select almost any conclusions the author wishes to make.

Thank you so much for sharing your views, gore3000!

Indeed, betty boop observed the overarching nature of the "first" and the "last" categories on my list. I agree with her analysis.

The liberal anti-gunners will never give up.

As long as they control the mass media, as long as the NEA maintains its ... Bolshevik monopoly * * --- on public education, and as long as we support churches, actors and other organizations who try to subvert our God-given, governmentally guarenteed rights, we will lose by gradual attrition.

We must take strong action on the propaganda front to sieze the initiative from these anti-Constitutionalist, left-wing wacko revisionists.

I haven't forgotten this thread, but I discovered last Friday that I'd been slacking off on a project to a dangerous degree - the deadline was Monday. Oops - there goes the weekend ;)

Anyway, I'll try to catch up tomorrow and see if we can't get back on track...

Sorry for my inattention to the thread lately but I just wanted to let you know that at 12:24 pm yesterday Mom went into the glorious presence of God prepared for her from all eternity. For a couple of hours and to her last breath 10 of us were privileged to be with her, singing hymns of praise to God Almighty. That I.C.U. unit was filled with song, albeit sometimes with feeble voice tinged with grief. Yet with the wonderful comforting promises of Scripture and those hymns of praise and thanks to God that she loved so much she was ushered into God's very presence. In the midst of sorrow over loss of the best Mom and Grandma anyone could ever have, I am thankful that God in so many ways glorified Himself not only in her life but also in her death. Would that I would be found worthy of a life and death like hers.

Please bear with me and I'll be back in a due course.

Cordially,

Precious in the sight of the LORD [is] the death of his saints. - Psalms 116:15

It is a privilege to celebrate the graduation of our dearly beloved.

Peace and love in Christ,
Sandi

I would like to hear what you guys think my score is, and what this test signifies, if anything.

I'm just a spectator. The game was set up by you and general_re. I know of one item for certain that you missed, which gives you at least a 10% error rate. The final score isn't announced yet. For a concept which claims that design and nature can always be distinguished, it doesn't look good.

I know you didn't really study these images, but advocates of ID claim that they can just look at things and "it's just obvious, don't you know" that the Great Designer has left his signature. Personally, I don't think it's that easy, but I'm not the judge of this contest.

Good to have you back.
