The Mexican Consulate in Indianapolis will be open for business Monday. It's an office that will serve a group of people that's growing rapidly in our city and state. Mayor Bart Peterson's office has worked for about two years with the Mexican government and the state of Indiana to get this consulate opened.
You don't have to look hard to see why the consulate is needed. Drive down Washington Street a few miles west of downtown, and you'll see the fruits of our Hispanic and Latino community's labor. Shop after shop, sign after sign in Spanish. There are now some 34,000 Latinos and Hispanics in Indianapolis, and 60% of them are Mexican.
"We have an education system that welcomes the immigrants and we like the way we are treated because we find that the American community is welcoming in general," said Roberto Curci, La Guia Magazine.
The city even has two publications geared toward this growing community. "The Voice of Indiana," a bilingual newspaper and "The Guide of Indianapolis," a magazine for Hispanics and Latinos. There's even a new Hispanic and Latino yellow pages.
Local businesses are forging ties with that community. Kroger just donated a van to the Hispanic Center of Indianapolis to thank them for translation help that the center has provided for the grocery chain.
"As we change and we are changing as a city, I think it was important for business to recognize that and we have recognized it," said Jeff Golc, Kroger.
The change will continue. Just ask the woman who helps run the grocery store on West Washington Street. New Hispanic and Latino customers come in for her authentic products all the time.
"Like once in a while there will be somebody new that comes. You know, like, "Oh, we just moved here and we came to see how it is." So yeah, we always get new people that come here," said Irasema Delgado, store manager.
The Mexican Consulate will serve three states: Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. It will serve as the Mexican government's primary link with those states on issues such as immigration, trade and economic development.

We've had this arguement before Fitz, and you lost. I know more Mexicans and more about Mexicans that you could ever hope to. That's why I know that your crowd is full of crap. Ask yourself this: if they wanted to live in Mexico WHY THE HELL DID THEY COME HERE? You don't uproot your family and move to a foreign nation to make it not a foreign nation. Doesn't make sense. You were on the right track before, just gotta put the 2's together.

If you can not have a debate without insults and personnal attacks then maybe the moderator should look into your posts.
That is really sick.

"And that American money was coming across the border in the hands of Americans who were willing to buy anything, eat anything and make love to anything."
And WHO was willing to sell anything including their own bodies for that money? Juarez was better off when it was a little tourist town, look what it's become. The Americans don't go there anymore, it's mainly a Mexican drug lord's paradise.

Some enlightening information about the culture and government you so willingly embrace.

It's all in having the right perspective. If you give them credit you could find them stressful. On the flip side, I enjoy this strictly for it's entertainment value. Sometimes my sides start hurting from laughing but they never aggrevate me.

Of course the usual crowd of anti-Mexicans You mean anti-Mexican government. We don't need that government putting it's little offices over here in this country. It should have no jurisdiction over any part of the USA ---the Mexican government has made a complete mess out of Mexico.

I don't know Fitz, why do we have so many? Not only should be have embassies, we should demolish the government of Mexico and place something more just in control. You seem to think the governments of Mexico and the USA are somehow equivalent?

I agree, CWO should be banned for those nasty vile remarks.....Totally uncalled for, and very insensitive.....

I very much doubt you know anything at all about Mexico. You seem to praise it so highly and think that we should all bow to the mighty Fox. If these same people are the saviors of the USA, why didn't they do more for their own country? And the fact they're bringing their embassy with them doesn't indicate a real desire to be American does it.

"From your posts, it seems your very innocent, and naive."As I was saying to another poster, it's all in perceptions. From your posts you seem like a narrow minded blithering idiot. For example, your selection of Indianapolis to illustrate your point, when in fact it's a remarkable success story, demonstrates that you cannot accept the fact that Hispanics have gone into an area and improved it.

Should you wish to expand your knowledge into what has happened in Indy you should visit Indy instead. Okay, you won't be able to get to know small farm animals or underage girls but you might find the experience enlightning. I find your remarks to FITZ disgusting and juvenile. You should be banned.

"And WHO was willing to sell anything including their own bodies for that money?"
Poor people willing to do anything to survice...even take money from Americans who were willing to shell out a few dollars to have sex with little girls. And somehow that makes the Mexicans the immorale ones?

LOL!

I'm too close to it. I'm friends with too many people that fled Mexico. I've talked to them about why they left and what they wanted to accomplish. For me it's personal, they're labeling very good friends of mine who love this country as enemies because they have a need for enemies. These people make me ashamed of everything I have in common with them.
