I saw this done on TV one day. It was some documentary on women of Islam. It was very horrible. Barbaric does not come even close to describing the ways of these people.

You said your wife is a Moslem. Are you? I've never heard of Moslems being able to marry outside their religion.
If they allow marriage between different religions, then it must be a more progressive country than others.

Doesn't the island of Cyprus have divided government? It is probably more Western than many other Moslem countries. But I am not really familiar with the country, maybe you can fill us in.

I am not a Moslem, I was born in Canada and my ancestors all are Christian.

I suspect that most of the Free Republic's 'experts' on Islam
never have travelled to a Moslem country.

I know many Moslems who are married to non-Moslems.

I know Moslems from work. They marry the women picked out by their families. Is your wife a practicing Moslem?
If you have children are you going to let them be raised in the Moslem religion?

In Saudi Arabia, they have put Christians in jail for having the bible. You have to admit Cypress is evidently not as hard-lined as many of the Middle Eastern Moslem countries.

Many years ago, I had a friend who's father was in the British military, stationed in Cypress. There are evidently two parts of Cypress. Which one do you live in?

And is the other part of Cypress as moderate in their views?

The difference is that in male circumcision only the foreskin is removed. If that were the case in female circumcision (a misnomer if I ever heard one) it would be arguable to let it continue. Female circumcision would be akin to removing the entire penis of a male. Get it now GOVscrewsU?

Believe it Doug... it is practiced. I watched a documentary. The things people do to each other over here (and not for the most part not endorsed by society and religion) in the US hardly compare with the evil wrought on people in those countries.... and very often *are* endorsed by society and religion.

I am reading up on Cyprus. It use to be under British control until 1959. I'm sure that the British had an influence in this region. Turkey invaded and gained control of 35 percent of the island in 1974 and now there is a buffer zone.

The British influence and the protection of the British government is probably why it is more mosderate than most Moslem countries. It also sounds like it depends on tourism.

However I was doing some research on "interfaith marriages" on a Muslim Q & A site and the clerics there answering questions from Islamic women married to "unbelievers" said that either the unbelieving spouse has to convert, or she is living in an adulterous relationship - she CAN justifiably live with you if you don't have sex, and if she keeps herself covered from your eyes. If you convert, and then again depart from/reject the faith (Islam) you should be killed. No I'm not kidding, I'm dead serious.

It's not practiced in all Muslim countries, and it is also practiced in some non-muslim tribes in Africa.

These men are really stupid. Don't they realize that if they let the women experience sexual pleasure, that they will get more pleasure in return.

On some level, they know they are simply not man enough to satisfy a normal woman. Their "solution" is to render the point moot.
