Islam’s Hatred of the Clitoris

IF YOU HATE WOMEN, and you hate their sexuality, and you are terrified that you cannot control it, the most effective thing you can do is to mutilate female sexual pleasure. This can be done by a sexual lobotomy, which will destroy an essential and sacred part of a woman’s natural makeup. In achieving this feat on all women, you will become able to ruthlessly dominate them.

That’s what female circumcision is all about.

It’s about obliterating the clitoris, or the entire outer vagina. It is the barbarity that exists where misogyny festers most: in the Muslim and African world.

The Muslims are the principal religious group that practice female circumcision. In Egypt, for instance, 97 percent of women are circumcised. Their clitorises are amputated. In countries like Sudan, meanwhile, the women-haters are not so kind: all the women’s external genital organs are completely removed. In a savagery called infibulation, the clitoris, the two major outer lips (labia majora) and the two minor inner lips (labia minora) are amputated.

Nawal El Saadawi has documented these horrifying realities in The Hidden Face of Eve: Women in the Arab World. She demonstrates how the violence of female circumcision is performed on girls anywhere from the ages of one month to puberty. Usually, it is done around the age of seven or eight. Anesthetics are never used. The child is pinned down by several women, while one of them attacks.

After infibulation, the small outer opening of the vagina is the only portion left intact. A tiny piece of wood or reed is inserted to allow urine and menstrual blood to seep out. Extra narrowing of the opening is carried out with stitches, which remain until marriage. The victim’s legs are often bound together from hip to ankle and she is immobile for about a month or two.

This violence has to occur because, in much of the Islamic world, the female’s genital area is considered dirty and unacceptable. For example, in Egypt the uncircumcised girl is called nigsa (unclean). Thus, it has to be made "clean."

Many of the victims lose their lives during this torture – which is often inflicted with broken glass. Many other victims are afflicted with acute and chronic infections for the rest of their lives.

With serious and disabling lifelong consequences, the mutilation robs women of their equilibrium. It deprives them from enjoying the fullness of their sexuality and the completeness of their lives. In terms of sexual pleasure, for instance, we know that approximately 75 percent of women cannot achieve orgasm without clitoral stimulation. In other words, the possibility of orgasm has been obliterated for tens of millions of women in the Muslim world. So what does it mean if the psychic, mental and physical health of women cannot be complete if they do not experience sexual pleasure?

The terror of the circumcision itself tracks its traumatized victims down like a nightmare. Most, if not all, of these poor women end up suffering from serious sexual and/or mental distortions. The mutilation of their sexual being becomes the epicenter where sex and violence meet constantly in their lives – with them as victims.

Wedding night is often quite eventful. In some parts of the Arab and African world, the husband assaults the wife after the wedding. In Somalia, for instance, the groom beats the bride with a leather whip. After this romantic apex, he cuts the sealed vagina with a sharp scalpel or razor in order to have intercourse. He then has prolonged repeated intercourse with her for a week – to prevent the scarring from closing the vaginal opening again. During this time the wife must lie still and not move. Meanwhile, the husband takes the bloody sharp object, which represents the virginity of his wife, and makes rounds around the community – showing it off for approval. Scholars such as Raphael Patai and Vincent Crapanzano have documented these phenomena.

After this honeymoon period, the woman is now, for the first time in her life, actually recognized as a person – because she has become the extension of her husband. Her status might even improve if she has a child (a boy). She will be humiliated and shamed, however, if she has a non-child (a girl).

And if a little innocent girl enters this world, it will only be a short time before her genitals share the same fate as that of her mother’s. When the torturers and soul-destroyers begin to slice, who will hear her cries?

It's the women (older ones), not the men who most tenaciously support and almost exclusively practice the continued mutilation of the little girls. Men are not allowed at the "ceremonies". Given that they mostly live in poverty and ignorance stricken cultures, the old women use whatever cutting tools they may have at hand, including broken glass, rusty razors and knives. The gaping, profusely bleeding wound is then sewed up with whatever is handy - ranging from thread to barbed thorns, with reeds inserted where the opening to the vagina and urethra used to be. No anaesthetic is used. No aseptic technique is practiced. The children frequently die from secondary infections such as tetanus as a result.

I said it is a painful procedure but if preformed while an infant. they won't remember it.

Probably no more painful than slapping him in the face to get the baby to breath. The problem nowadays is this urge to avoid pain at all costs, even if the pain involved is very low level. What do you want to do? Ban spanking? That is painful too... And probably a lot more painful than circumcision.

The ironic thing is that by avoiding circumcision soon after birth a lot of people are condemning their sons to suffer a hell of a lot of pain later in life when they do decide to get circumcised.

What I find the most odd about it is the implication that GOD somehow screwed up when designing the male penis.

Ummmm, it was God Who told the Jews to circumcise their male infants :)

I dunno why He did it that way, but not only does it provide for less disease for men in later life, it also lowers the rate of disease for women.

I said nothing about banning it because it is painful. I said it is painful but not remembered if done at a very young age. My husband and I made an informed decision to have our son circumcised 23 years ago. If we were to have another son now, I think we would make the same decision.

Muslims, Christians, and Jews all worship the same God!

Not true!! Moslems love to equate allah with Jehovah of the Judeo-Christian bible, but that is blasphemy of the worst kind. The God of the Judeo-Christian bible is definately NOT the the "god" of the koran.

Satan decieved the Arabs into believing he (Satan) is God by meeting Mohammed in a desert cave and revealing the fundamentals of the Islamic religion to him. Mohammed believed he had met with angels in that cave, but in fact he met with Satan and his demons.

If you ever wondered why islam is such a cruel and barbaric religion, the answer is that it is the creation of Satan himself. Allah is actually Satan, and Islam is the world's largest Satanic cult. Those who want us to believe that allah is the same God which Christians and Jews worship are the same ones who falsly tell us that islam is a religion of peace and love, while it's holiest book tells it's believers to torment and kill anyone who won't accept it.

I had checked on this soon after 9-11, but couldn't find this as an exclusively Muslim practice, although some of them still practice it due to the culture of the area. I remember watching a documentary on it, the poor little 12 yr old girls having this done, no anasthesia, not to mention ruining their enjoyment of sex forever. I just simply cannot imagine. As far as I could find, there is NOTHING in the Koran which advises this practice, but still some of them do it. If anyone can find any more information for me that supports the idea that muslims teach this as doctrine, I would be glad to have it. More proof with which to despise the bloodthirsty mysogenistic sects.

Perhaps but it is not very painful. Certainly much less painful than a run of the mill spanking. I remember once in junior high school when I was sent to the Dean's office for a paddling. Some of the other kids waiting their turns were sobbing and screaming as if they were facing a torture chamber. This got me nervous too. But when my turn came I barely felt that paddle. It was nothing compared to the spanikings (and whippings) that I got at home. Bottom line is that the hype about the pain of circumcision sounds like the hype I was given about the paddlings.

I don't see that implication at all. He doesn't command non-jews to be circumcised. What he commanded them to do was for a mark of their belonging to him and being set apart by him. Much like piercing an ear was done to slaves that wanted to stay with their masters because they loved their masters and vice versa.

I understand what you're saying. It's just that this mutilation of women is another facet of their evilness that we have noticed. I'm still wondering how widespread a practice this is. We may never know, because it probably isn't something they brag about, and most of the women who have succumbed to the system aren't going to speak out.

It's articles like this that makes a lot of FreeRepublicans look like buffoons. Sure this is practiced, in some small, remote areas, so is cannabalism and self-mutilation, but be assured that this does not happen on any widespread scale, as the author would have you believe. I really hope the majority of freepers don't fall for this.

I always thought men who are circumcised still enjoyed sex. What do I know, being a woman. They sure put up a good act.

Unless things have changed drasticly since my four sons were born, circumcism is totally up to the parents. At least that was the case in Alabama. None of my boys were circumcised at birth. Male circumcism is usually favored by some doctors. There is no reason for a girl to be circumcised much less mutulated.

Nogbad, Islamic law says that a Muslim man may marry a Jew or Christian woman, but that a Muslim woman may not marry any but another Muslim man. You know that your wife may be considered by some other Muslims not to be a good Muslim at all. (I believe otherwise, but I'm just asking you how she feels about this law and if she is judged for it.)

I lived in Turkey and several Americans we knew married Turkish, Muslim women while we were there. But Turkey doesn't have a stringently Muslim culture.

It IS done. There was an article in Reader's Digest within the last three years or so by a woman who is now a well-known fashion model, who had this mutilation performed on her, exactly as described in the above article. It's sick.

I remember that article. I can't remember her name. She was a beautiful young woman who was brave to describe this terrible procedure.

Have you ever thought that the reason Islam is so barbaric and cruel is that it is a religion that originated in the nomadic tribal regions of the middle-east, and to those people, this is everyday life? What do you expect, that Muslims should have a religion based on going to a church meeting dressed up in sunday clothes? They didn't even have reasonable dwellings.
