Target is starting to track employees’ unexcused lateness and absences with a points system

The post-pandemic days of coffee badging and logging in from the couch may be coming to an end. More employers have been rolling out novel ways to keep tabs on workers' whereabouts. And now, retail giant Target is doubling down on its attendance policy with a new points system.

Starting this September, Target will begin tracking the unexcused tardiness and absences of its store and warehouse workers with a new points system, according to Business Insider reporting confirmed by the company.

Staffers' attendance violations will be tallied up and addressed accordingly: a quarter of a point for being more than eight minutes late to work, one point for missing a shift without their manager's approval, and three points for skipping on work without telling their boss. The attendance strikes expire every 365 days.

And the higher the number climbs, the more serious the consequences become. If staffers rack up three points, they'll have to check in with their supervisor; after five, counseling is on the table. And ultimately, if employees hit the threshold of 12 points, they'll be shown the door.

New CEO, new rules after lackluster sales

Target's attendance system comes as its new CEO, Michael Fiddelke, looks to improve store operations and create a better experience for shoppers.

In a statement to Fortune, a company spokesperson says "Target is focused on returning to growth

Thank you very much and God bless you.

When I was working in a once smokey sweatshop, but well after they they mandated no smoking at our desks now only the breakroom Management decided that they were going to institute a 3 times late and you are fired rule.

You could be up to 59 seconds late, but if the timecard said 8:01 you were late, and they were serious.

One day the Top producer guy was late for the 4th time, well not late yet, but we all knew he was going to as we saw him driving on the other side of freeway toward the office.

Suddenly he pulls over on the side of the freeway and everyone runs to the windows and watches as he waits for a kind of open space and running across the first 4 lanes dodging cars like frogger, waits again for the 4 southbound lanes runs across, hops the fence stumbles down the embankment, runs across the parking lot. (there were then stairs but we could not see that.)

A minute later he flies through the door and slams his timecard into the clock 8:03

the GM pulled the guy into his office and yelled at him for a while, then came out onto the floor and said Jim knew the policy and he was late, but you all watched what happened and the extra efforts he made to be on time, but he was still late but the effort was above and beyond which is what I expect from you all the time.

Right now write on a piece of paper "fired", or "not fired" I will collect them now.

If more than 1/2 of you say fired I will.

(he was not)

Slouching sales

Perhaps Target should bring more transgender clothing, pride celebrations, and gender fluid restrooms? That’ll bring sales up!

And sack the Salvation Army bell ringers at Christmas. Annoying holier-than-thou Christians! Who needs them?

“””Those data centers aren’t being built to make your life better.”””

My planned reply was going to echo the same theme.

With Big Tech building hundreds of huge data warehouses, they will need to market their data storage capabilities.

Monitoring employee whereabouts will be just one of the jobs the data warehouses will be offering to provide.

Big Tech will probably offer free Tracking Devices.

Isn’t AI going to be wonderful????

ya ya ya... until the stats show blacks are shown to score lower points, then they will do away with it for the greater good... Waste of time even talking about it.

While those who worked for Target in Canada was sad to see it go. We were glad it went before they started enforcing gender ideology. Nobody wanted to deal with grown men in dresses or anything else that went with it.

Did they pay overtime for those that came in early?

This is newsworthy? The majority of businesses have rules about punctuality and attendance.

It’s retail. What’s that-$16 an hour? Can’t blame the store. That’s why only Mexican workers are visible there. I’d quit first chance. Someone told me Trader Joe’s people like it there-20% discount on their in-store purchases. Home Depot-if I was younger I’d work nites and flip houses in the daytime. Gotta be employee discount to go with their 401k. Opportunities are out there for the young.

If the lateness and absences were not that bad, they would not be implementing this.

$16 an hour?

Holycr@p. No wonder things have doubled or tripled lately. Enjoy your "living wage" even though it still won't buy you anything and brought others down closer to your level.

Walmart has had a point system for years. They pay you for every minute you work. You can clock in a bit early and you have to take your paid for breaks.

Get five points and you can be fired.

At least China's communist surveillance state comes with social order.

Ours comes with tranny pedo groomers, Hamas terrorists on campus, and raving mobs of feral black criminals.

Any bonus points for:

Coming in to cover a shift for short staffing?

Staying later in a shift to close out a sale or other unexpected event?

Staying home while sick and not infecting everyone else?

Just asking…

If a husband and wife from Mexico are both working for that amount they can make it in this country but just barely. The thing is it’s better than what they can do in Mexico. Since health care and 401k’s are not available to most of them they’ll need government assistance. That’s where we draw the line while the left is more attractive to them.
