Convicted terrorist sues landlord of The Saracen’s Head pub for £1,850 because sign ‘scares him’

A CONVICTED terrorist is suing a pub called The Saracen’s Head Inn — saying he was “deeply offended” by the boozer’s sign.

Khalid Baqa, 60, claims the “depiction of a bearded Arab/Turk incites violence” — despite him previously being jailed for preparing jihadi propaganda.

He also claims it is racist and is wants £1,850 from the landlord of the historic inn at Amersham, Bucks — and plans to take on 30 more with the same name if successful.

But publican Robbie Hayes, 52, fumed: “It’s a complete joke. This pub has been called The Saracen’s Head for 500 years.

“He’s just chancing his hand. Of course it worries me — you never know with people like this.

“No one at this pub is racist, we don’t believe the sign is racist and the name is simply historic.

“We won’t be pushed around and change hundreds of years of history just because some loudmouth wants to cause trouble.”

Baqa has filed a “claim of money” form — an application to county court for a sum of cash a person says they are owed, which was previously referred to as small claims court.

His submission says: “While walking through the area I was shocked and deeply offended by what I saw.

“I saw pub signage depicting a brown-skinned bearded Arab/Turk male with a turban and captioned ‘The Saracen’s Head’.

“This instilled worry and fear in me since it was clearly xenophobic, racist and inciting violence to certain people. I immediately complained to the pub and requested the signage be removed.”

He claims to have contacted the pub four times and visited in person, but staff there have no record.

We sing praise of total war.
against the Saracens we abhor.
to free the tomb of Christ our Lord
we’ll put the known world to the sword.

The Saracen has a friendly enough face. Not menacing at all.

Entertaining. But here is a real one from the Templars in Holy Praise on the Crusades (that would really scare the pooh out of the Saracen mahometans):

It's this kind of crap that makes me think that anyone who sues someone else and loses, should pay the other side's legal fees. I've been an expert witness in almost 100 court cases, but recall one where a minor fender bender was actually caught on video clearly showing the plaintiff caused the accident. Rather than go to trial, the insurance company said it was cheaper to offer $25,000 to call off the suit than to fight it, even though they clearly would have won. That's wrong.

Having the plaintiff pay legal expenses where they lose might help to unclog the courts.

This pub is Scottish, and was (before Parkinson’s Disease caused him to curb his travel) a place frequented quite often by Billy Connolly, the Scottish comedian. He featured it on an episode of one of his television series. It is truly a historical place... To me, the perfect pub. I could sit in there and enjoy a few pints of Tennents. Actually, let’s see... Two pints in a quart, four quarts in a - oh yeah, I could do that.

He’s not very happy about having gotten Parkinson’s Disease, and said that he wishes he could give it back to Parkinson.

No, it's a pub. It's meant to incite drinking.

I read somewhere that Saracen originally meant “Easterner.” No connection to Islam at first.

The Wikipedia article on the word Saracen cites Claudius Ptolemaeus (Ptolemy) (2nd century AD) using the word, also Hippolytus of Rome and Eusebius. So it began to be used during the Roman Empire. Mostly found in the Middle Ages.
