Actor Dick Van Dyke, who turns 99 next month, suggested he would happily not be around to see the next four years under President-elect Donald Trump’s second term in the White House.
While some celebrities threaten to leave the United States in response to the 2024 presidential election results, Van Dyke’s Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) has taken an even more radical turn, with the actor saying he is grateful he won’t be alive to experience the 45th president’s second term.
“Fortunately, I won’t be around to experience the four years,” the Mary Poppins star said in response to a reporter who asked, “Do you think Donald Trump is capable of making America great again?” according to a report by Daily Mail.
After being asked, “Does the future look bright for America?” Van Dyke replied, “I hope you’re right,” while his wife reacted by saying, “Oh man.”
Notably, the actor endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in an Election Eve Instagram post in which he bizarrely likened the 2024 election and today’s political climate to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement by reading a speech he had originally delivered at an event with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on May 31, 1964. …

Its sad if he truly thinks that. Its disappointing to hear him like this.
MLK being insulted by comparison again.
MLK and Ronald Reagan are used by more people when they are trying to denigrate current conservatives and republicans than any other two people.
They always use The Great One (Reagan) when they say “there was a compromising president who wasn’t extreme like Trump...blah blah)
MLK is used only when handy and his real message is ignored.
Disgusting.
Sad. I used to like him.
So fkn die already.
He would rather die?
That will happen soon anyway.
Smart money says he gets his wish.
At 98, sadly, his wish may come true. It takes a lifetime to build a reputation and only a moment to lose it. Let’s attribute it to old age and dementia and move be on. I’d rather remember him as (I thought) he was.
I agree with you that it's sad and disappointing -- I've enjoyed DVD's work all my life.
OTOH, he's just another (great, talented, gifted) entertainer, who should stick to entertaining and otherwise keep his social/political views private, or at least not try to pretend anybody else cares what he thinks.
How well did that work out for Tay-Tay Swift, and she had many times the number of adoring fans that Van Dyke does.
He’ll probably get his wish for only witnessing a partial term.
I hope no one shows up at his funeral.
He conned us into believing he was a decent man..
He isn’t...if he likes CRIME, ILLEGALS TAKING OUR COUNTRY, HIGH FOOD PRICES, KILLING BABIES....WHAT A ROTTEN PERSON HE TURNED OUT TO BE.
I hope he hangs on until at least February.
Click bait, he handled the ambush pretty well.
His brother is known to have raped his daughter and sold her services and Dick was still willing to associate himself with him.
I’d say you’re right. I’ll be very surprised if he lives to see Donald Trump inaugurated. Jimmy Carter too.
lol
Michael Jordan has the best advice for celebrities dealing with politics: Republicans buy sneakers too.
What meanest thou?
He’s 99....oldsters can get depression with anxiety often...my guess is he is experiencing that phenomena...
Plus he knows his time on earth is short. Too bad he wasted it being an actor only....bad way to go out knowing that your fervently expressed beliefs are not regarded highly by the majority.
