An American tourist was eaten by a shark while on a dream diving vacation with friends in Indonesia. The body of Colleen Monfore, of South Dakota, was found inside the shark’s stomach after she was swept out to sea by strong currents, the Sun reported.
Monfore, 68, and six pals were enjoying a dream diving trip around Pulau Reong island. She was dragged out by strong currents on Sept. 26 — and the boat’s guide was unable to pull her back in. A fisherman caught the shark in East Timor on Sunday.
“The shark was caught but it was not in normal health. I thought it had swallowed plastic or a fishing net,” the fisherman said. “It was cut open to find the problem and inside there were the remains of a woman.” Local officials said the corpse was in a black wetsuit when it was recovered from the shark’s stomach.

Sounds like a Oceanic White Tip.
What a way to go. How horrific. Poor woman made it to retirement, takes her dream vacation and then this.
At least the bears in the Rockies generally maul you and leave you for dead.
A nice camping trip in the Black Hills would have been more fun.
And the memories would have lasted longer.
Shoulda gone swimming with someone who swims slower than her.
Adventure travel gone awry. Sharks say send more...they’re delicious.
Note to self; avoid this guide boat.
Why all the way to Indonesia ? She was from South Dakota . Florida or Hawaii would have been just as exotic ?
It appears the shark couldn’t digest the wet suit.
Probably her and all of her friend have been there, done that. Just like any other "adventure," you get more bragging rights at cocktail parties the more dangerous and exotic it is. I don't fault her for going out there and trying to make new memories, but suffice to say she died doing what she loved. May she rest in peace.
That should have been “friends.”
“Shoulda gone swimming with someone who swims slower than her.”
She was alone, having been swept away by the strong current.
that bites...
Do not feed wild animals, they lose their fear of humans, and come to associate humans with food...
That won't stop her from voting Democrat.
Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Reminds me of when the first Jaws movie came out. All kinds of people stopped using the ocean. Whenever I get the urge to swim out in a large body of water, I choose a lake, preferably a mountain or foothills lake. In the summer, it is wonderful to swim a ways out, turn over onto your back, and just float.
When we were very young, dad would take us directly West to Pescadero Beach. Hunting for sea anemones in the tide pools was great. Sometimes, when we had some money, dad would take us to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
They say Pescadero water is cold. I tell people that if you don’t stop, just keep swimming, it is not that hard.
Prayers for the lady’s family. I have lived and worked in 3rd world countries, including the Central American jungle. Whether in or out of the water, one must remember that while the Earth can be a wonderful place, it is chocked full of dangers. Animals, sharks, scorpions, red ants will do what they do. When in doubt, assume the worst.

There’s a picture of the sharks head at the link posted ...looks like a Tiger Shark to me.
(GRAPHIC WARNING: There are also partial remains of the victim; which indicates to me she may have drowned before being eaten; although it’s certainly possible she was attacked.)
