Lots of guys used to do that in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Come to America, work a few years, go home, buy a farm or whatever.

"Lots of guys used to do that in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century."True. Many of our ancestors were men who settled in the U.S. first and then sent for their wives and children later.
But, in those days, the U.S. offered more job opportunities. Today, many of our jobs have been shipped overseas, but these foreigners spend thousands of dollars to come here and work. They still believe our country is the land of opportunity.
