The difference there is the bar owner locked the door first, “Now youze can’t get out”.

True. In the bar the mob had a sense of justice. The man here made the mistake of giving chase.

That statement really contradicts fearing for his life. It speaks more to his anger of his family being violated.
The main point I was going for was that when we lose faith in government doling out justice, people will reach a point of taking it on themselves.
