As a novelist, published quite successfully in an earlier era, I’m beyond saddened by this trend of woke editors and agencies. When you read the profiles of agents and the material they ask for, you will find quite explicitly exactly what’s described in this story.
In short, at a time when I’m writing the best fiction of my life, I can’t seem to break the bipoc, LBGTQ+ ceiling. Last three years I’ve been asking, “Who’s reading this stuff? Cannot possibly be a market for it.”

Just today I was telling my sister about a children’s novel I’m working on and how I’ve added a side character who’s “non-binary” and obsessed with her pronouns. The subordinate point of this side character will be to mock her narcissism - as and see her snap out of it by the end, realizing the journey wasn’t “all about her”. I expressed worries about turning off conservative parents by even bringing that attribute forth. She said “No, I totally get the irony and humor. So will the conservatives. The wokies will love it, because they’ll be too self absorbed to catch the mocking of what will clearly be seen by the heroes a character flaw.”. We’ll see...
