The Taoiseach has said that what is happening in Gaza is not just self-defense on the part of Israel, but it “resembles something more approaching revenge”.
Leo Varadkar’s comments come as Israeli ground troops are encircling Gaza City this morning.
He said that it is very important that people “never forget where this started”, adding that this phase of the conflict started with a Hamas attack on Israel where 1,400 civilians were killed, including one person who was a dual Israeli-Irish citizen.
“I strongly believe, like any state, Israel has a right to defend itself, has the right to go after Hamas, so they can not do this again,” Mr. Varadkar said. “But what I am seeing unfolding at the moment isn’t just self-defense; it resembles something more approaching revenge and that’s not where we should be and I don’t think it is how Israel will guarantee its future freedom and security.” […]
The Taoiseach added that given what has been said by Israel and Israeli authorities, “they wouldn’t consider us [Ireland] to be close friends and allies the way they would consider the US, UK or Germany to be. It is a state we have relations with, but I don’t think we are as close as we might have been or perhaps could be, because we do take a different position than most western countries on Palestine and what’s happening at the moment.” …

"The presence of a protected person (aka civilian noncombatant) may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations."
The Gaza district’s infestation has proven to be very dangerous and must be eradicated now.
If anyone thinks it is revenge that’s a mistake but revenge would be more then justified after the Arabs murdered 1400 innocent people
The “hate-crime” are the real mothers of “hate crimes.” The same bastards call us Nazis. They are the ones screaming, pissin’ and moanin’ to kill all the Jews. It would be nice though if the Jews would back us as much as we back them.
This is true. It would also help if they didn’t vote Democrat 80%.
Did they offer to take Palestinians?
“the Irish go on and on and on and on .. ad nauseum .. about how they were treated by the English, and I didn’t ever hear of the IRA deciding that “enough was enough””
That war was fought between Catholic & Protestant and likely still is.
No; plenty of atheistic commies on the purportedly Catholic side.
We have plenty of oil. However, Biden won’t let us develop it. In less than 2 hours after he took office, he killed the XL Pipeline, killed exploration on federal lands, and increased bureaucratic delays for permits. Why? Well, one reason is that a big contributor, Warren Buffet, owns the rail line that provides the only viable way to move oil from Keystone to the refineries in the Mississippi Delta. The other is that Obama is still running the show for his Muslim buddies. This is the most corrupt WH in history.
Of course not. You are absolutely correct.
P.S.: I am sorry, but I had been “derailing” this discussion a little; I had just asked another Freeper about Lord Mountbatten’s private life (he was assassinated in Ireland in 1979).
My question had nothing to do with the war in Israel. May this horror come to an end, may the forces of Israel win! Amen.
3. Can you expound more on why Ireland is anti-Israel?
One of it’s best Irish-American supporters, NYPD Officer J. Wilson just passed away from ill health but he remained pro- Israel till the end. I wish America, Ireland and Israel had another million men like him.
We were Matzoh Balls and Corned Beef & Cabbage. An old Jewish national security reporter and a tough Irish cop. Only admiration and respect between us, forever.
Irish they were all dead.
No, revenge would be doing to innocent muslim citizens what they did to the Jews.
Eliminating enemy combatants is called self-defense.
