Raquel Welch helped Bob Hope entertain the boys fighting communism in Vietnam.
Jo Raquel Teqada was born on September 5th 1940, in Chicago, Illinois and died in February this year in Los Angeles.
She was both willing and reluctant to be an amazing sex symbol. I call that being human.
Her own words distance her from her sex goddess status without totally rejecting it:
“My family was very conservative, and I had a traditional upbringing. I was not brought up to be a sex symbol, nor is it in my nature to be one. The fact that I became one is probably the loveliest, most glamorous and fortunate misunderstanding.”
“Being a sex symbol was rather like being a convict.”
Was she really a prisoner or was her image of powerful sexuality a force for good?
Welch did not want women to usurp the roles of men:
“We try to do too many things that used to be in the men’s domain, and we try to do them like men’s. I’m a prude – I guess you can tell that – but I think, ‘Why would you do that?’ “
For Welch women were made to nurture others:
“Without women to nurture in this world, how do men get by? How do children get by? How does society get by at all?”
She believed in two way communication:
"You can't fake listening. It shows."

My Grandfather was a lawyer and worked on a lawsuit she ended up winning a bunch of money on in the early 80’s. What he said about her is, she was not only physically beautiful, but she was strong and beautiful inside He said what struck him most every time he spoke with her was how incredibly intelligent she was. He said when he first was put on the case that all he thought before meeting her, that she would be the stereotypical dumb starlet. He said he was almost speechless within the first 5 minutes of meeting her just how sharp she was mentally, socially, and emotionally.

Melania has the same certain vibe as in that photo.
She looked good old.
No overboard plastic surgery like now days.
What a great anecdote. Welch’s published account of her life revealed conservative views — which is consistent with your grandfather’s experience.
