FUKUSHIMA——
About 2,000 peaches which were ready for picking have been stolen from an orchard in Date, Fukushima Prefecture, police said Friday.
According to police and the orchard owner, a man in his 70s, the peaches were stolen sometime between late Wednesday afternoon and 8 a.m. Thursday, Kyodo News reported.
The peaches, which were stolen from 30 trees, are valued at about 650,000 yen. They included the highly sought-after Akatsuki variety.
Police have stepped up patrols in several prefectures in the past few years following a spate of fruit thefts. Fukushima is the second largest peach-growing prefecture after Yamanashi. August is the peak season for peaches
Peaches come from a can.
They were put there by a man in a factory downtown.
If I had my little way, I'd eat peaches every day
Isn’t that where the nuclear plant is? Are they “very special” peaches?

Seemed like good advice a long time ago. Seems to be even better today.

That’s $2.29283 usd per Peach !!! Must be some pūrdy damned good Peaches. I’m happy with a good’ol Stonewall, TX Peach 🍑. Georgia has some pretty good ones too. And neither one of them are glow-in-the-dark.
What a juicy story ...
What a shame. Those 2000 peaches could have made the difference in the old man’s year being a failure or not.
Thieves suck.
I’ve never been to Japan but I’ve had a few close friends who were Japanese and this seems a fairly serious crime in a culture that is so respectful old women sweep the public streets in front of their house each morning.
I wonder if the peaches glow in the dark and make great Christmas ornaments
When the theft of peaches is the big crime story, you know you’re dealing with a very low crime country.
Compare and contrast that with the big crime stories in America. Gang bangers mowing down however many people on any given weekend, packs of feral “youths” attacking tourists and stores in the high end areas, this or that union and politician being caught up in a massive bribery scheme.....and you could find all of this on any random weekend in Chicago alone.

When we moved to a small town in NY’s southern tier we read the police blotter. It was reported that some boys had been moving around rocks and garden gnomes in an elderly lady’s garden. Their punishment? They were told to “behave themselves”.

Well... considering in Japan a well-conformed cantaloupe will run a thousand dollars...
If these peaches were special they were beautiful and perfect in every respect. Thus, very valuable.
Sounds like somebody got a yearning for a little peach cobbler.
You can read by them at night...
CC
Just use a geiger counter to track them down
Stolen? Well, that’s just peachy.
