The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) will be put to a vote in the Senate this week, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in an announcement on Monday. […]

Schumer argued for the new vote on the ERA by citing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade last year, as well as the ongoing legal dispute over the popular abortion drug mifepristone. […]

In 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the ERA after Nevada and Illinois did so in 2017 and 2018.

The ERA would no longer have to be ratified by the original deadline under the legislation that will be debated on the Senate floor this week, and it would be acknowledged as “valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution.” […]

The measure was presented by Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Ben Cardin (D-Md.), and has also received the support of 52 senators. …

“The measure was presented by Senators Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Susan Collins (R-Maine)...”

RINOs are worse than Democrats.

Babies are not people. They’re clumps of tissue and an inconvenience to women whose birth control failed. Disposable.

(how pro-aborts think)

  1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

  2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Not in the wording.

This echoes clauses in the old USSR constitution, never mind other communist constitutions, designed to facilitate destruction of the family.
Women in the USSR are accorded equal rights with men in all spheres of economic, state, cultural, social and political life. The possibility of exercising these rights is ensured to women by granting them an equal right with men to work, payment for work, rest and leisure, social insurance and education, and by state protection of the interests of mother and child, prematernity and maternity leave with full pay, and the provision of a wide network of maternity homes, nurseries and kindergartens.

— 1936 USSR constitution, Article 122

Women and men have equal rights in the USSR. Exercise of these rights is ensured by according women equal access with men to education and vocational and professional training, equal opportunities in employment, remuneration, and promotion, and in social and political, and cultural activity, and by special labor and health protection measures for women; by providing conditions enabling mothers to work; by legal protection, and material and moral support for mothers and children, including paid leaves and other benefits for expectant mothers and mothers, and gradual reduction of working time for mothers with small children.

— 1977 USSR constitution, Article 35

Women in the People's Republic of China enjoy equal rights with men in all spheres of life, political, economic, cultural and social, and family life. The state protects the rights and interests of women, applies the principle of equal pay for equal work for men and women alike and trains and selects cadres from among women.

— PRC constitution, Article 48
No equal rights for babies there either. And both are big historic abortion slaughterhouses, of course.

And just for the record:
Men and women shall enjoy equal rights and freedoms and equal opportunities to exercise them.

— Constitution of the Russian Federation, Article 19, clause 3

From Wikipedia: However, experts and advocates have acknowledged legal uncertainty about the consequences of the Virginian ratification, due to expired deadlines and five states’ revocations.

Thanks for the reminder. Schumer’s attempting another direct subversion of the process of law.

..... “valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution.”......

Thus acknowledging that the ERA would NOT be a valid constitutional amendment.

The time period for the ERA to be fully ratified by the necessary number of states expired a long time ago. Chuckie thinks he can do an end-around the procedure for amending the Constitution to ignore the fixed maximum period to achieve ratification.

And there are Republican Senators, some helped by Mitch McConnell, who support Chuck Schumer.

Where does the Constitution say women don’t have equal rights as men?

I don’t understand this.

The deadline for passage expired decades ago.

Is Schumer trying to say that the Equal Rights Amendment is deemed ratified, if it is voted on and passes by majority vote in the Senate?

But a constitutional amendment takes a two-thirds vote of each House of Congress. Is Schumer trying to say that they are starting the ratification process all over again? Is there 2/3 support in the Senate to pass this and then send it to the House of Representatives for their approval?
