Remember the first time I heard Message in a Bottle. We walked around singing “Sending out an SOS!” for days afterward.
The Police were the It group for a while.
Donna Summer made a hit out of hookers before they did with the Disco hit, “Bad Girls” (as have many acts have done before and since).
Frankly, having heard the tune, it ranks exceedingly low on my listening scale.
I bought Outlandos d’Amour as soon as it came out and it blew me away. Almost every song is solid, from Next to You to Can’t Stand Losing You. The album made me a fan of the Police and pointed me towards the Clash.
As for the song Roxanne, it inspired the dumbest drinking game in history.
One person or team takes a shot each time Sting sings “Roxanne,” the other person or team takes a shot each time Sting sings “put on the red light.”
The Police changed rock music, suddenly everybody started trying to sound like them, especially trying to copy Stewart Copeland’s drumming style.
The three best Police songs by far never got high on the charts

Diddy says he was just ‘joking’ when he said he pays Sting $5k a day for sampling Every Breath You Take on his 1997 hit song Missing You
To those who follow and rate these groups:
What group performed before more live crowds of 10,000 and of 50,000 than any othe group in the 1950s?
And in the 1960’s? and ‘70’s? and ‘80’s? and ‘90’s’?
They didn’t sell many records. (My dad was one of the few.)
But their live appearances were record breakers world wide. Largest live appearance in many states, in many counties.
Who was that group?
“I don’t care if it’s wrong or if it’s right” bump!
Copeland’s father was a CIA bigshot. His mom had been a British spy. Hence -> “The Police.” Copeland Sr. also wrote for “National Review.”
I remember that song because the guy was yelling ROXANNE! in his squealy voice.
