Somebody wants the Bible removed from Davis County school libraries

Someone wants the Bible removed from libraries in the Davis School District.

On Dec. 11, 2022, a challenge was filed with district officials asking that the Bible be pulled from the shelves of the district’s schools.

The school district doesn’t reveal who challenges books, nor does it ask why.

A random check of school districts revealed that they, too, have an array of religious texts in their school libraries such as the Bible, Quran, Torah, the Book of Mormon and the Hindu text Bhagavad Gita, but none reported they had been challenged.

Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley said the district received an inquiry about religious texts in its schools but the person did not file a formal request that the district review them.

Since the passage of Utah’s “sensitive materials” law in 2022, Utah school districts such as Alpine, Granite and Davis have received dozens of other requests for book reviews, some spurred by parents rights organizations such as Utah Parents United and others from concerned individuals.

HB374, sponsored by Rep. Ken Ivory, R-West Jordan, defines “sensitive material” as instructional materials that are pornographic or indecent, colloquially referred to as the “bright line” rule in state code.

Ivory said the challenge of the Bible is “a backhanded slap to parents that are simply trying to keep a healthy learning environment for all students in the schools. I have every confidence that no school district is going to consider the Bible as violating 76-10-1227,” which addresses descriptions and depictions of illicit sex or sexual immorality.

Following the legislative session, school districts developed policies to implement the law.

Just point out in other “religious texts” where homosexuality is discouraged. They will want to ban them too. It’s just the faggots that hate the Bible.

I wonder how many people actually would pick up a Bible in a “school” library. But regardless of that, prophecy right before your eyes, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears...”.

Maranatha!

Was my comment that unclear? I believe the reaction against the Bible is due to His stance on homosexuality and not so much else.

If they are banned and removed make it a point to go in each week and place a copy somewhere in the library. Quiet revolution, the Lords word shall not be stopped.

Too many wannabe ‘journalists’ and other attention whores give traction to this stupidity.

The response to “Somebody” is simple - ‘pound sand’.

It’s one of the most influential books in history, it belongs in a library. End of discussion.

Most banned books are not that popular. They definitely become popular when someone wants to ban it. Nothing like identifying the sexual books to teenagers. Legislators make it too easy.

I don’t see that in the article. Please provide the link to another source you found.

Is this the case where a bunch of books got banned for having talking animals, sexual content and so on based on House Bill 374... And a parent filed the petition on the basis that the Bible has all those things in it too?

https://www.sltrib.com/news/education/2023/03/22/utah-parent-says-bible-contains/

As I understand it, the claim is based on the Bible containing,

“... Incest, onanism, bestiality, prostitution, genital mutilation, fellatio, dildos, rape and even infanticide”

Eight Bible verses have been cited in evidence.

Banning books on the basis of poorly defined subjective bases, with no clarification of the content guidelines is never a good idea in a free society. Someone invariably trolls the rules by exploiting gaps, inconsistencies and open goals.

But they ignored the vote. (personally I think they made a bad mistake.)
