Ha ha! I remember playing Barney, in full length costume, and nailing his goofy voice - for my then girlfriend’s 3 year old son’s birthday party. The embarrassment, disappointment, and shame on my dear dad’s face was EPIC.
I was in a long line for customer service. Over the speaker came “thank you for shopping at AAFES. be sure to see our holiday specials in the flyer and if you have kids don’t forget to sign up for our drawing for the 6 foot Barney doll” The collective groans and sighs rolled throughout the place. I felt bad for all the parents. Hard to forget that experience as it was so funny.
Wasn’t Barney the poor basturd whose Barney Suit AC unit caught on fire a number of years ago and the boy inside had to quickly unass the suit in front of a bunch of horrified kids? LOL!
Id didn’t know barney had ‘fans.’ That said I recall my university had a ‘barney bash’ event sometime in the early 1990s. It was shameful that college aged people bothered to have an opinion on barney at all.
My sister-in-law actually knew the first Barney guy that wore the suit. And someplace there is a picture over at their apartment in Alexandria Virginia with Barney sitting at their bar having a drink and smoking a cigarette.
He told his host and Hostess that the suit was down in the trunk and they proposed “why don’t you go down and get it and we’ll take a couple of pictures” and he did. They were Polaroids and they were Polaroid quality, but it was a hoot... Barney having a rum and coke with a smoke.
Both versions are mind-numbingly stupid. I hate them both.
My kids loved Barney when they were tiny. We didn’t have tablets and cell phones back then, so they watched it on TV - and I often had to sit with them. At least, I rationalized, he’s modeling being nice.......suspect the new Barney will be a SJW who is only nice to kids who have the proper skin tone.
What’s next, a reboot of Teletubbies where they actually model gay sex to groom the kiddos?
