Alec Baldwin has claimed he's been exonerated over the death of a cinematographer he accidentally shot dead by a new report blasting producers of the film whose set witnessed the tragedy.
New Mexican Occupational Health and Safety Bureau officials levied the maximum fine against the producers of Rust, the western movie on whose set Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed by Baldwin in October 2021.
Executive producers were hit with a $136,793 film - the maximum available. Baldwin himself was a producer, but highlighted a passage in the investigation which said that he was involved in the script and casting - but not safety procedures.
'We appreciate that the report exonerates Mr. Baldwin by making clear that he believed the gun held only dummy rounds.
'Additionally, the report recognizes that Mr. Baldwin's authority on the production was limited to approving script changes and creative casting.
'Mr. Baldwin had no authority over the matters that were the subject of the Bureau's findings of violations, and we are pleased that the New Mexico officials have clarified these critical issues.
Wednesday afternoon, Baldwin, issued a statement that touted the scathing report as a victory.
He has since claimed that he did not pull the trigger of the gun that fired, and that it went off by accident in his hand.
In Baldwin's statement, his PR team cited how officials only named Halls and another staffer, Property Master Sarah Zachary - two of three employees to handle the gun before it was passed to Baldwin - as responsible for safety slip-ups that resulted in Hutchins' death, ignoring assertions that the company as a whole should be held 'fully accountable' for the failures.

i thought based on the type of the revolver it was, and the design it had for firing, that what he was claiming wasn’t possible.
“Alec Baldwin has claimed he’s been exonerated over the death of a cinematographer he accidentally shot dead”
Exonerated? How was he exonerated? even if the gun discharged as a result of a faulty safety he he’s still at fault for not checking that the weapon was loaded with blanks and not live rounds. If he wasn’t assured that the weapon was safe he should not have pointed it at anyone never mind pull the trigger on someone.
he’s going to be in serious trouble legally and financially when this go’s to court.
Yep.. And he’ll get out of it. If he’s held accountable I’ll never know it.
But you know what? The chick he shot in the face was a commie.
So there’s that.
You thought right.
He has since claimed that he did not pull the trigger of the gun that fired, and that it went off by accident in his hand.
Even if that’s the case why did he point it at the woman in the first place, or even pull it out of the holster when there was no call for it, except just for messing around. You just don’t point a gun, loaded or not at anyone unless you intend to kill them. I have been around guns as well as shooting for at least half a century and always abided by these rules. I still think this guy is a certified jerk.
“commie”
Always worth noting.
It’s not the case but you are quite right on all of your other points.
(Executive producers were hit with a $136,793 film)
I was thinking maybe it was ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’.
😜
Hey Alex: the person who squeezed the trigger, is the responsible party.
Baldwin said that the gun “went off by accident in his hand.” Oh, ok. Person was killed? No problem. Just a simple accident. Case dismissed. In other news, Baldwin is 100% responsible for the death of Ms. Hutchins and is guilty of murder.
The filthy murdering prick can not control his temper so he blames others for the evil he does. Stick a fork in that devil, he’s roasted.
just when you think he cant sink any lower- he does-
Did he exonerate himself?
Baldwin was one of the Producers, but not one of the Executive Producers responsible for managing the production. There clearly were major issues with the handling of firearms and ammunition, which were not primarily Baldwin’s responsibility.
However, Baldwin picked up a gun with checking it, pointed in at people for no apparent reason, and fired it (maybe somehow accidentally and probably thinking it was not loaded).
It is true other people screwed up, but that does not in anyway exonerate Baldwin for shooting and killing the Director of Cinematography.
Alec will always be a murderer.
I can’t think of a revolver- appropriate round that goes through someone and injures the person behind them.
Every account said he asked the pistol at the woman. This means she’s made out of paper or there were two shots.
Call me a conspiracy buff, but I think the whole thing didn’t go down as described and I think some Hollywood muscle has some people afraid to talk.
Because I know for a fact Hollywood has muscle.
When was Bruce Jenner charged with murder, I missed that.
Baldwin’s culpability as a producer depends on the details of what he and others did in that capacity, not simply on the title producer. My guess is that for purposes of civil liability, Baldwin will be on the hook as responsible in considerable part for the time and cost pressures that led to cutting corners in violation of industry rules and practices.
“accidental”...
Anyone wonder if she may have been pregnant (with his offspring)?
Just a thought.
Hes not the only one responsible
The armorer who cleared that gun as safe is at least as responsible as well.
