Oberlin College REFUSES to pay $33m in damages to family-run bakery that called cops on three black students for shoplifting, only for bully dean to falsely accuse them of racial profiling and set woke mob on them

Oberlin College was ordered by Ohio's state appeals court to pay Gibson's Bakery the sum on April 1, but continues to contest the payout, and says it is considering its options.

The bakery was wrongly accused of racism after calling the police on three Oberlin black students for shoplifting a bottle of wine.

One of its workers - Allyn Gibson - was even attacked by the three shoplifters after refusing to hand over a fake ID, and demanding they hand over the stolen wine.

That trio were later convicted - but not before Oberlin went along with its students' union's claim that their arrests had been as a result of racial profiling.

Shockingly, the college's then dean of students, Meredith Raimondo, helped circle the wagons, and even distributed leaflets accusing Gibson's of racial profiling in an attempt to destroy the 137 year-old business.

The arrogant academic even texted another dean to share her desire to unleash another woke mob on an academic who blasted Oberlin's bullying of Gibson's.

She wrote: 'F**k him. I’d say unleash the students if I wasn’t convinced this needs to be put behind us.'

Despite her disgraceful lies and bullying, the 52 year-old was allowed to stay with the college, and stepped down at the end of 2021 to take up a position at Oglethorpe College in Georgia.

Former Dean of Students and Vice President Meredith Raimondo stoked protests against Gibson's Bakery following the shoplifting incident, even though the claims were found to be totally false. She has since been blamed for much of the behavior that has seen Oberlin ordered to pay $35 million for defamation, with Raimondo since moving to a college in Atlanta

They are Leftists — court orders don’t apply to them.

They can refuse to pay all they want but unless they file an appeal with the Ohio Supreme Court within the statutory time limit, their financial accounts will be attached and the 33 million withdrawn for the benefit of the plaintiff. Sucks to be them.

I would try to figure out when tuition is due, and levy on the bank accounts a couple of days later. Tuition isn’t cheap at Oberlin, as I recall. Not an Ohio lawyer, but they should have a similar process. If you can squeeze their cash flow, you can probably elicit a response.

It would probably be harder to try to grab payroll cash accounts. That money probably doesn’t sit still very long.

Not to worry. The search for an appropriately bent judge (e.g., one selected by Bubba or Dorkbama) and he/she/it will simply nullify the ruling. The law? No problem. The Constitution? Watz dat? We don’t need no stinkin’ constitution.

Note that the problem with my light-hearted joking above is that we all know that there is a good probability that it’ll happen.

Put a lien on the college and let the interest eat up their donations

Exactly. I don’t know what statutory interest is in Ohio, but here in Colorado it’s 8%. Adds up fast on a $35 million judgment.

Oberlin has a $937.0 million endowment as of June 30, 2020 the most recent figure I can find published. They have the money it’s time to jail the administration and start seizing property.

Oberlin is counting on leftist judges to shield them from paying damages.

I said when the news broke about the judgement that they would refuse to pay and that no court order to pay would be enforced.

That’s still my opinion.

If you think otherwise, then you don’t know how far gone we are.

About which they are absolutely 100% correct.

This is why some nations have taken to brutally stomping on their communists.

Sometimes it’s the only way.

It’s always the only way, because of the cult-like devotion to their agenda that you mentioned. They can’t be reasoned with. For some reason, our country is still letting them run amok, likely because many don’t want to admit what will be required to stop them.

The endowments are likely one thing they can't touch. The endowments would be earmarked for specific purposes and trying to use them for something like a lawsuit would negate the endowments and the money would go to another institution or back to the donors.

Courts have been getting pretty flexible on diverting endowment funds to keep the doors open. I think I recall Sweetbriar doing it in a big way a few years ago. Vandy did have to give back some money when they re-named a building.

Was going to say the same. Have their lawyers not advised that a money judgement is a legal debt that can be attached to real and personal property and foreclosed upon?
