One of the worst bands ever.
Just horrible.
I floated the idea of doing that song for my solo gig. The falsetto part makes it difficult. My target wouldn’t be Lenon, but most of the people in the audience
Thanks for posting that, I appreciate it
Boddhisatvah on “Countdown to Ecstasy” was also a knock on all the rich folks suddenly buying into Eastern Mysticism.
And here I thought these liberal artists were all about peace and love and getting along with everyone.
But, I enjoy the much of the music of these lefties.
I haven’t before heard that it was connected to John Lennon.
Great song. It’s Steely Dan.
Lyrics
Only a Fool Would Say That
Steely Dan
Our world become one
Of salads and sun
Only a fool would say that
A boy with a plan
A natural man
Wearing a white stetson hat
Unhand that gun begone
There’s no one to fire upon
If he’s holding it high
He’s telling a lie
I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world
Where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that
The man in the street
Draggin’ his feet
Don’t wanna hear the bad news
Imagine your face
There is his place
Standing inside his brown shoes
You do his nine to five
Drag yourself home half alive
And there on the screen
A man with a dream
I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world
Where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And only a fool would say that
Anybody on the street
Has murder in his eyes
You feel no pain
And you’re younger
Then you realize
Only a fool would say that
Only a foooo oooooo ooooo oooool
I heard it was you
Talkin’ ‘bout a world
Where all is free
It just couldn’t be
And a fool would say that
And a fool would say that
And a fool would say that
The most boring music in the world recorded to perfection.
Haven’t heard that song in 30 years. That was an album cover you just had to have to be even remotely cool. Along with “Sticky Fingers” and all Led Zeppelin 1-4 albums.
And the Eagles put them in Hotel California because Steely Dan had referenced them in a previous song.
Never knew this was about Lennon. Makes sense. Thanks for posting this. Btw, Steely Dan is top shelf in my book.
Imagine no communists...
Ironically Lennon was conservative and Regan supporter before he died,
ROCKSTAR

NICKLEBACK!

OH YES.
Love the sentiment, the song, the album and the band. SD is one band whose music I still listen to (gulp!) a half century later. Lyrics were sometimes hard to decipher, but the musicianship was extraordinary.
Who on this thread has ever heard the instermental prelude to “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number”?
MUST LISTEN later. So far, it sounds like a great answer to fools who idolize “Imagine.” OMG! Imagine explains transgenderism. Oy vey.
But it's about love! Yes, but they don't believe it.
"Imagine" is merely the Screamer Ohno doing her shitty pimping of Lennon's catlogue. FFS, both Sean and Julian are practically Torys.
I like Steely but as lyricists, anytime Becker held the poison pen it compromised the music. "Deacon Blues" is a classic example:
"If a college football team like the University of Alabama could have a grandiose name like the 'Crimson Tide' the nerds and losers should be entitled to a grandiose name as well."I mean, wtf, I ain't 'Roll Tide' but that is a stupid, spiteful take, and the whole song pivots on that sentiment right down to its name!
The absurd irony is that just. like. Lennon., they took too much acid and it jaundiced their world view.
Lennon kept a bottle of liquid LSD in his fridge labeled "Mothers Milk"; as for Steely, shit just cue up "Kid Charlemagne".
