Ocean heating driven by human-caused climate crisis, scientists say, in sixth consecutive year record has been broken
The world’s oceans have been set to simmer, and the heat is being cranked up. Last year saw the hottest ocean temperatures in recorded history, the sixth consecutive year that this record has been broken, according to new research.
The heating up of our oceans is being primarily driven by the human-caused climate crisis, scientists say, and represents a starkly simple indicator of global heating. While the atmosphere’s temperature is also trending sharply upwards, individual years are less likely to be record-breakers compared with the warming of the oceans.
Last year saw a heat record for the top 2,000 meters of all oceans around the world, despite an ongoing La Niña event, a periodic climatic feature that cools waters in the Pacific. The 2021 record tops a stretch of modern record-keeping that goes back to 1955. The second hottest year for oceans was 2020, while the third hottest was 2019.
“The ocean heat content is relentlessly increasing, globally, and this is a primary indicator of human-induced climate change,” said Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado and co-author of the research, published in Advances in Atmospheric Sciences.
Warmer ocean waters are helping supercharge storms, hurricanes and extreme rainfall, the paper states, which is escalating the risks of severe flooding. Heated ocean water expands and eats away at the vast Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, which are collectively shedding around 1tn tons of ice a year, with both of these processes fueling sea level rise.

Once again, a story to strike fear that the sky is falling! It is just a constant and unrelenting flow of negative information to keep the populace scared. Of course, that is the point. Information warfare works.
I am so tired of this crap. I’ve died 4 times in the last 50 years due to climate change. The next time I think I will die for real, but they first have to figure out how to link climate change and COVID at the same time to put on my death certificate.
Not to mention… the conjecture that they put forward assumes they actually can tell the temps of the oceans throughout history, which they have no real ability to do. The actual title should be “hottest ocean temps since we started to accurately measure them”…. Then theyd have some semblance of credibility.

Notice seven paragraphs and no values. How much do they claim it increased? How do they claim to measure “the top 2,000 meters of all oceans”?
How can they say their increase is more than the error in trying to measure this?
They said there would be no snow in CA after 2020 and this year they are having record snows.
This is a plot of the worldwide ocean temperature data for the top 700 meters of the ocean for the last half century. Since the bottom of the ocean is cold, this layer contains much of the ocean's heat.
Sure, the recent years are the highest. But look at the scale. It's only two TENTHS of a degree C. You can't even feel that little temperature difference, and that's over a HALF CENTURY.
Note also the beginning of the plot. The temperature was going DOWN. This was the time of declining earth temperatures wheere the same rear mongers were predicting a Global Freezing catastrophe.
We are simply experiencing a typical slight 'oscillation' of global temperatures. This one even has a name: the PDO, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation. If you doubt me, look it up!
