Thirty years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, a significant majority of Russians continue to feel nostalgia for their country’s communist past, according to a recent survey from the country’s leading independent polling agency.

In the Levada Center’s poll, published on Friday, 63 percent of Russian respondents expressed regret over the breakup of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in 1991. The sentiment was strongest among Russians aged 55 and older, 84 percent of whom described the dissolution as a tragic event.

By contrast, a mere 28 percent of respondents said that they did not regret the demise of the Soviet Union.

The only demographic group in which a majority of respondents did not mourn the event was that of Russians aged 18 to 24.

The Levada Center based its results on a survey of more than 1,600 adults across Russia between November 25 and December 1.

Early last week, a group of Russian lawmakers introduced a bill that would designate the collapse of the USSR as “the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century.” […]

The lawmakers’ initiatives echoed sentiments frequently expressed by President Vladimir Putin. …

These reports of reports are very misleading. Here is the same center’s similar survey released last year. Look down to the list of what the nostalgic are nostalgic for and it is not what this report implies:

only 6% of Russians identify as definitely socialist...

Actions speak louder than words. In the last elections almost 20% of Russians voted for the communist party

I’m not a fan of banning political parties, even the ones I disagree with.

I know many here will say “yes” of course, LOL, but should the Democratic Party be banned because they supported slavery?

Still a pittance compared to the impression this story gives.

(We have over 40% voting for the Prog/Dem/Socialist party...)

— “corporate capitalism” is essentially not capitalism. It is corporatism, which is a collectivist ideology.

Like the other collectivist phase appearing in the last years, we get seduced into using others' words and phrases. "Crony capitalism" and "corporate capitalism" are such phrases, quite akin to "state capitalism" which avid socialists like to trot out in their arguments.

Really what we are probably talking about is "corporatism," which is just another collectivist ideology. But various flavors of collectivists want to skew our conversations to sully capitalism, which basically is private ownership and competition. It seems best to not apply adjectives to the term, capitalism. In terms of "nudging" words and word meanings, consider what the Left has done to "justice" by using one adjective, "social." I'd suggest that "crony/corporate capitalism" isn't capitalism anymore than social justice is justice, or "woke" is being awake.

A reasonable list of collectivist ideologies includes "crony capitalism" and "corporate capitalism" as well as "state capitalism" because they are not capitalism and because they are neither free nor competitive. Property rights are really foundational only under capitalism and freedom.

The list continues with its sister ideologies, socialism, National Socialism, Italian Fascism, Soviet Socialism, Chinese Communism and more.

Whereas here 81 million recently voted for the corrupt Communists....

(tongue in cheek, but just barely)

The Soviet Union was a cow which ate everything around Russia, but got milked in Russia. It was forced feudalism. Sure Russians want to return to that. But the people being exploited stopped working for nothing. They set up independent black markets.

Russians? Forget about it. It’s over, and it’s not because of anything you have any control over. Provide for yourselves.

63% of Russians are retarded.

As opposed to the % of Americans that are retarded? It's problably not that much lower.

Living under a dictatorship is easy. They tell you what to do, how to do it, you don’t have to make decisions, everything is taken care of. Very comforting.

About 10 statues of Stalin have gone up around the country since 2012, said Pavel Gnilorybov, a historian who works with a group that tracks human rights abuses.

Gnilorybov is a Soros puppet and all around soy-boi...no wonder you have his comments at your fingertips.

I don't know about any of that, but I think his name means something like "rotten fish."

P.S. What happened to you? Why the "Russia, Russia, Russia" all of a sudden?
