'The name's Bond. James Bond. Pronouns: Them/they.'
He may be an enduring symbol of masculinity, but Britain's most famous spy could identify as 'non-binary' in future, 007's producer has revealed.
Barbara Broccoli has poured cold water on suggestions the role could go to a woman… but in a new interview, she conceded a future Bond could be 'non-binary' – someone who considers themselves neither male or female, and usually prefers to be referred to as 'they' rather than 'he' or 'she'.
Speaking to the Girls On Film podcast, Ms Broccoli talked about the hunt to replace Daniel Craig who is stepping down from the role after No Time To Die.
When host Anna Smith asked if she thought 007 would always be male, she replied: 'I do, because I don't think that we should be making films where women are playing men.
'I think we should be making more films about women. I think Bond will be a man.'
Smith suggested 'Non-binary, perhaps, maybe one day?' to which Ms Broccoli replied: 'Who knows? I mean, I think it's open. We just have to find the right actor.'
Ms Broccoli, who controls the 007 franchise through her Eon Production company, also said the next Bond might not be white, adding: 'We want the actor to be British… and British, as we know, can be many things.'
Names linked with the role include Idris Elba, Bridgerton's Rege-Jean Page, Mad Max star Tom Hardy and Bodyguard actor Richard Madden.
Last night, one Hollywood producer said: 'Bond has to adapt to the times but a non-binary 007 might be hard for fans to accept

There would be no need for Bond Girls.
Read on FR a couple days ago that Wonder Woman is now a lesbian. They can’t leave anything alone.
After Sean Connery no longer played 007 I’ve not watched any other Bond film.
Not sure why I care enough to even post, but James Bond is a caricature of Toxic Masculinity. Aggression, narcissism, hypersexuality, constant and skillful resort to violence and homicide, wild driving in hot cars, blowing things up, quick intelligence, ad lib problem-solving, decisiveness, athleticism, loner without family or long-term attachments. Manliness, and thus Bond, are out of favor. Any film built on an unmanly Bond will fail.
Non-binary = Stones and alike
They killed James Bond when they hinted he is a homo. They may as well kill the franchise completely and make him a tranny.
Tom was was great in Miranda but no one else in the US ever watched that
That was my first thought, but Dr Who is going back a few years and trying to make a comeback after teh whole female fiasco.
While SMERSH was the chief villain in the books, the Soviets were never the villains in the films. The very first film, Dr. No, introduced SPECTRE.
Sometimes a Soviet operative would go rogue (Octopussy, The Living Daylights), but the "good Soviets" would reel them in.
After the fall of the USSR, Russians came in for a more negative portrayal. Ironically, in the Brosnan films, one of the nicer Russians was a former KGB officer turned brothel owner.
Gives a whole new interpretation to the torture scene in Casino Royale.
Le Chiffre would merely tease Bond with the plank, but withhold any torment unless he talks.
I think 007 was more interesting and fun during the cold war era. GoldenEye was well done, that was close enough to the fall of Soviet Union so I considered that to be a part of the Cold War era. Since then, 007 had lost his purpose. So at this point, going back to the basics would suit 007 the best.
Wonder how long before they censor the Goldfinger novel, which explicitly reveals Bond's "homophobia." He even converts a lesbian, whose only problem was that she "never met a real man" before Bond.
Diamonds Are Forever, both the novel and film, are also "homophobic." It's hinted that the revolting Wint and Kidd are gay lovers.
And the killer Grant in From Russia With Love is explicitly asexual, hence his skill as an assassin.
And I consider myself no longer a FAN.
Bye Bye Bond.
Include me out!
So.... an imbecile.
