Bash back better: Here’s what governing by crisis looks like
Associated Press ^ | October 2, 2021 | Calvin Woodward

Washington’s tempestuous week of walking, chewing gum, juggling balls and spinning plates at the same time is giving rise to apocalyptic rhetoric about the state and future of the country.

Four big things are happening at once, all attended by hyperventilation.

The White House talks of a “cataclysmic economic threat” if Republicans don’t start cooperating. Republicans assail Democrats for unleashing a “big-government socialist nation.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says: “Insanity and disaster are now the Republican Party line.”

It’s a contest to see which side can bash back better. This is what governing by crisis looks like. It may be the only way anything gets done. …

When members of the tea party class of 2011 first threatened debt default, they were outliers. Now, it’s standard operating procedure in the GOP to keep that long-unthinkable threat alive, even if Republicans may not be serious about letting it unfold. …
Forgot to post this piece of today’s big lie. And it sure is big; nobody in the “tea party class” (note Woodward’s use of dividing people into classes; that bleeds through even though it’s worded like a school’s graduating class) ever threatened to default on the debt, but warned against the big-government socialists doing it by blowing it up to proportions that were impossible to pay down.

“Class” in that sentence refers to a Congressional “class,” as in “freshman class,” or a set of Congressmen elected ir sworn in in a certain year. It does not mean class such as economic or social hierarchy.

The only “cataclysmic economic threat” is the creation of the Whitehouse.

Not the office itself, but those unconstitutional “departments” that act like they have constitutional authority to make law at will.

Democrats don’t need Republicans help. They have a majority, though small.

Unknown if that slight majority would have come to be if not for the Republicans’ help. Remember, the Republicans are willing to help the Uniparty; if not, then real government shutdowns would be the norm (not phony shutdowns like what happened under Obama) and the public would be thankful for it.
