Developers plan 735ft-high Vegas resort in shape of the MOON that has 4,000 hotel rooms, a lagoon and its very own 'lunar colony'

Renderings have been released of an eye-opening Las Vegas resort that takes the form of a giant moon. Its name? 'Moon', naturally.

According to the Canadian entrepreneurs behind it, it would cost £3.6billion ($5billion) to build and, with a height of 224 metres (735ft), would become the joint-second-tallest building in Sin City with the JW Marriott, which is currently the second-loftiest structure behind the 350m- (1,149ft) tall Strat Observation Tower.

The celestial retreat – which would be the world's largest sphere - features 4,000 hotel rooms, a 'crater café', a spa, a casino, a lagoon and guests seeking a space-age adventure will be able to take a moon shuttle to a 'lunar colony'.

Designed to replicate the surface of the moon, the 'active lunar colony' is the unique selling point for the ambitious resort.

To access the colony, which would be in the upper half of the sphere, guests would head to shuttle stations, to waiting moon shuttles. Designed like cars on a roller coaster ride, the shuttles, it's explained, will snake around the exterior of the hotel suites as they ferry guests upwards.

Once there, guests will spend 90 minutes exploring the 10-acre (4-hectare) space, whizzing over craters in a 'moon buggy'. The colony promises to 'precisely mimic those [lunar colonies] now under serious active planning by Nasa, ESA and many others'. Tickets would cost £361 ($500) a pop.

'Without question, when guests venture onto the lunar surface, for the first time in their lives, they will believe they are on the Moon,' explains Michael Henderson, who founded Moon World Resorts (MWR) with his business partner Sandra Matthews.

$5 billion divided by $500/night is 10 million visitors just to pay for the initial cost, let alone interest and ongoing expenses (labor/utilities/taxes/supplies etc.)

My jaw hung open in Vegas watching every Pavlovian training trick in the book bombard everyone 24/7 from the airport to the cabs to check in and all the way back out again. I felt uncomfortable every moment in that city. It is as if everything there is designed by an evil psychology major.

It will be interesting to see if this project gets funded.

When they started proposing this kind of Las Vegas project in 2006-2007, everybody knew the end was near. Fontainebleau Las Vegas now finally slated to open as the J.W. Marriott...fifteen years after breaking ground. We’ll see if it actually happens.

Then they should have gambling to make up the $$$. Pretty sure the house always wins.

Just think about how they handle their wastewater. That’ll un-pavlov you for a while.

I did not. I kept thinking, there is a special place in hell for these people that have put this whole cacophonistic orgy of constant manipulation together. I do not understand why people go. It had me on edge the whole time there. It was as if there were fingernails being dragged across a chalk board for me everywhere I looked and everything I heard. I felt on edge. Hunted. The hairs on the back of my neck prickling constantly. My body primed for the flight or fight response at all times. A terrible, rotten and evil place.

but I find Vegas to be just about the tackiest, most repugnant city on the planet.

You need to visit Atlantic City: less classy plus busloads of New Yorkers.

I went to LV 1st time last month, never ever again. Had to stay in Strat for a Board meeting having a venue change at the last minute. It is a dump full of gangsters and dope smokers. The sign next to the hotel elevator button said “Smoking Marijuana Is Not Permitted On Hotel Or Casino Premises”. The place reeked of weed and the lobby casino blasted Rap music with a zillion crappy casino machines in there.

Icky icky icky. I left early, staying less than 24 hours.

Its a sad please, Strat.
