Owners of Subway franchises are asking the company's bosses to pull adverts featuring soccer star Megan Rapinoe, because customers are complaining about her political activism.
Rapinoe, 36, is as well known for her outspoken views and purple hair as she is for her soccer skills.
In Tokyo for her third Olympics, Rapinoe took a knee during the National Anthem, before their bronze-winning game.
Donald Trump issued a statement mocking Rapinoe for failing to bring hold the gold.
'The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job,' he said - comments which Rapinoe called 'sad'.
Rapinoe famously said in 2019 she would not go to the 'f****** White House' to celebrate winning the World Cup when Trump was in office.
Rapinoe was hired by Subway in April for an advert showing her kicking a ball that knocks a burrito from a man's hand - and her telling him to eat a Subway sandwich instead. She is currently in their sports-themed spot, alongside Serena Williams, Tom Brady and basketball player Steph Curry.
Yet her adverts have been divisive.

It’s sad for the Subway franchisees who are losing customers because of inane decisions made by Corporate.
It must have seemed like a good idea at the time. Given that their penultimate spokesman turned out to be a child molester, a shakeup of the marketing department may be in order

Have you folks seen the dang commercial they did with her? First she kicks a soccer ball into the face of a guy eating a hamburger, and then she kicks another one to knock a hamburger out of another guy’s hand, then tells them to eat something healthy
If she did something like that to me, after I finished pounding her head into the ground, I’ make her buy me a new hamburger.

I have to admit that whenever I have thought about eating at Subway recently, I remember that purple-haired freak in their commercials, and make the conscious decision not to. I’m afraid the stink she put on their brand will linger for quite some time.

I can put up with regular posters screwing up spelling and less than pefect grammar but someone who does is professionally for Dailey Mail should at least proof read their work before publishing it. I am referring to the statement about President Trump mocking her for not bringing “hold” the gold. I know it may be trivial but this is from Daily Mail so I would expect a bit more professionalism.
I imagine marketing is the same as HR departments. Full of diversity hires for the sake of diversity.
You know, the whole joke gag line about lesbians and fish is ridiculous and betrays a great lack of intellect on the part of anyone who uses it. It’s playing into the stereotype of cletus b yokel mouth breathing knuckle draggers. Anyone who understands the biology of sex would know that women do not smell like fish unless they are having sex with men.
There are plenty of places to buy sandwiches. I’ll go to those which don’t hire someone who hates Americans like me for their spokeswoman.
