This probably could have been consolidated, but worth a read.

You mean like “ You can’t fix stupid”?.. or think about the regular person you know and realize half the population is dumber than him or her..

Your neighbors, even the friendly ones, won’t hesitate to snitch on you if they think you are doing something they personally couldn’t get away with or just disagree with.

Great list. I would add: China owns us. As for the bonus thought, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

4/ Propaganda is just as effective in the modern day as it was 100 years ago. Access to limitless information has not made the average person any wiser less susceptible to flattery; less inclined to indulge in a smug sense of moral superiority and the belief that he belongs to a small, select elite with a monopoly on the truth; more likely to re-examine comfortable assumptions, beloved dogmas, and feel-good axioms - even at the risk of possibly having to admit that he has been in grave error for most of his life up until now.

The Bible is right: Pride is the cardinal sin.

8/ Once they have made up their mind, most people would rather to commit to being wrong, than admit they were wrong.

Escalation of commitment is a type of mental illness

I sure noticed how many people would complain about my lack of mask or even caring about distancing or any of it in general. They would raise a stink because they think they can’t do it too.

Reality was that if everyone just did it like I did, there wouldn’t of been a pandemic, it would of been life as normal.

“At least 20% of the population has strong authoritarian tendencies, which will emerge under the right conditions.”

Read Elias Cannetti, “Crowds and Power”

Lots of people will do things in a crowd they’d never dream of doing on their own.

Or as they say it on the street: “Small dogs run in big packs.”

The truth becomes the enemy of mass hysteria. If the masses believe the masks will make us safe, no amount of scientific evidence against it will overcome that belief because it is not based on science. It’s more like a religious belief.

Lots of good thoughts, one minor quibble:

“2/ At least 20% of the population has strong authoritarian tendencies, which will emerge under the right conditions.”

Never use a number you just pick out of the air. The use of “significant” in another sentence was a better way to get the message out.

In general, I find people that are ignorant of technology & science can be easily convinced of almost anything - especially if they lack critical thinking skills. Unfortunately, this is now the norm.

This whole thing was handled in exactly the opposite manner that it should have been. That alone is highly suspicious. Once we knew it was a disease, like many, that hurts old people with other problems our policies should have reflected it. They never did, in fact we doubled down by forcing COVID patients into nursing homes. Shutting down small businesses so everyone has to go into the same big businesses is absurd. Wearing these masks is absurd. Shutting down schools is absurd. Arresting people outside for not wearing a mask is absurd.

I can go on - but all these things were claimed to be appropriate because of ‘the science’. There’s no ‘science’ that comes to these conclusions. These are nothing but authoritarian policies created by older folks (politicians) because it made THEM feel safer and make them more wealthy (stocks in big business and kickbacks from them for campaigns). This has been nothing but a massive violation of peoples’ rights yet nobody is going to be accountable.

How on earth does any free country allow the destruction of small businesses by labeling them as “non-essential”? Essential to whom? They’re certainly essential to the millions of small business owners and their employees. What a massive overreach by government.

The continued government checks are keeping small business employees from returning to work. This is also by design and deliberate. It’s as if they only want big business employers or people dependent on government. Easier to control everyone? It can be the only answer. The USA has become what it is due to entrepreneurs starting their own business and thriving, this is being systematically destroyed. It’s all part of the ‘lower all boats’ philosophy of the left - to gain ‘equality’, which is the only way that can be achieved.

...just 3 weeks to flatten the curve.

Thomas Edison said it best, “5 percent of people think, 10 percent of people think they think, and the other 85 percent would rather die than think.”
