Trump's racism is an impeachable offense. The precedent of Andrew Johnson proves it.
NBC News ^ | July 30, 2019 | Peter Irons

He attempted “to bring into disgrace, ridicule, hatred, contempt and reproach the Congress of the United States.” He delivered “with a loud voice, intemperate, inflammatory, and scandalous harangues, and has uttered loud threats and bitter menaces, against Congress [and] the laws of the United States, amid the cries, jeers and laughter of the multitudes.”

He has brought the “high office of the President of the United States into contempt, ridicule and disgrace.”

Sound like someone we all know? These charges certainly describe President Donald Trump’s deplorable behavior and its effects on Congress, the presidency, and — most importantly — the divisions he has exploited and widened among the American people, as well as the damage he has caused to America’s standing and role in the world community.

But they aren’t an imaginary list of offenses compiled by Congress to hold Trump accountable for his transgressions; they are actual excerpts from Article 10, the most important of the 11 impeachment articles brought by Congress against an earlier president: Andrew Johnson.

“the Constitution reserves to Congress the right to over-ride such a veto and to remove the President”

Impeachment is subject to Amendment VIII with respect to due process.

The Supreme Court could have the final say.

I’m kind of amused by the call-someone-racist with no facts to support approach. I wonder if anyone beyond the echo chamber of liberals believes it.

That’s the best they have? President Trump, unlike every democrat to occupy our White House is not a racist. Pathetic. These losers are still throwing their perpetual temper tantrum.

".... I still don’t see how disagreeing with Democrats makes one a racist....."

My mother used to tell me that you can't rationalize with people who are irrational.

Does that answer your question? :-)

“to bring into disgrace, ridicule, hatred, contempt and reproach the Congress of the United States.”

The Congress of the United States has brought such upon itself.

You beat me to it. I was thinking, they've done a good enough job of that on their own.

And they have abandoned all pretense of objectivity. The media have joined the Democrats in advocating for impeachment.

Amendment VIII has nothing to do with due process; surely you’re not saying that impeachment is cruel or unusual beyond the unusualness of the crime?

As for due process, impeachment IS the Constitutionally prescribed due process... although certainly if the President challenged the impeachment on any grounds, the Supreme Court would be obliged to consider those grounds. But I expect on consideration, it would defer to the Congress to make any legal decision beyond deferring to Congress.

You are right. They also know some will vote strictly because of “Trump fatigue”

I still don’t see how disagreeing with Democrats makes one a racist.

And I don't see how my waking up in the morning makes me a racist.

I guess its complicated.

Article 10 provides this basis by making clear that speaking contemptuously about Congress and its members, with “intemperate” and “inflammatory” attacks based on racial animus — as both Johnson and Trump did on multiple occasions — brings the presidency into “contempt, ridicule and disgrace.”

What a giant load of BS.

No one can point to a single thing Trump has said that is actually racist.

The "Trump is a racist" meme is nothing but pure propaganda.

Wasn’t half of Congress newly-former Confederate states at that point? I’d always figured Johnson’s impeachment was more about that than anything else.

“I still don’t understand how AOC (Ruerto Rican) and Rashida Tlaib (Palestinean) are considered ‘Persons of Color?’”

Many Puerto Ricans are a mixture of Spanish and “black” ancestry.

“Persons of Color” commonly means having an ancestor who was not a Caucasian. However, many Asians don’t want to get lumped in with those two females.

I’m a mixture of pink and tan myself.

Andrew Johnson escaped conviction in the Senate by one vote, that of Kansan Edmund G. Ross.

Ross’s career was destroyed by the same Radical Republicans who had brought the impeachment against Johnson.

In dealing with ‘spiritual’ people, it will save much frustration if you remember this...

You can’t reason someone out of something they weren’t reasoned into.
