Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) argued Friday that federal prosecutors' latest filing in a case involving President Trump's former longtime attorney Michael Cohen means that Trump allegedly committed two felonies.
Lieu, a member of the House Judiciary Committee and frequent Trump critic, told MSNBC's Chris Matthews on "Hardball" that "we have a sitting president of the United States who committed two felonies while running for president.....

I strongly disagree that paying off a trollop counts as a campaign contribution.
He’s most likely PLA under not-very-deep cover...
Ted Lou is an idiot
They have always had the votes, Bolshies and never-Trumpers would have been enough votes, but, they never had 67 votes in the Senate. They could have wasted time and got the same President, who, does not forget a thing.
It isn't inherently, which is why if Trump paid it himself there would be no issue. But when someone from your campaign pays off the trollop, and that person raises money from a third party to pay off another trollop, then you are likely into a campaign contribution violation. Is it impeachable? Not at all.
I'm no lawyer or law student, but from what I understand, Edwards was charged with six felony counts by the Feds.
Wikipedia quote: "On May 31, 2012, Edwards was found not guilty on Count 3, illegal use of campaign funding (contributions from Rachel "Bunny" Mellon), while mistrials were declared on all other counts against him. On June 13, 2012, the Justice Department announced that it dropped the charges and would not attempt to retry Edwards."
Count 3 had to do with using campaign donations as "hush money." The FEC claimed back in 2011, that the Edwards Campaign owed approximately $2 million dollars his campaign had received in matching funds. The FEC said that the matching funds payment was based on bad figures provided by the campaign. I have not found anything that would attest to the campaign ever paying the fine.
Obviously John Edwards never disclosed these campaign fund payments to the FEC. And as far as I know, Edwards wasn't fined by the FEC for the "hush money" payment. The fact that Trump reimbursed his lawyer out of his own pocket, has nothing to do with campaign law. That's why it's so outrageous that Cohen agreed to plead guilty to a law that doesn't even exist. I think Cohen believed if he pled to that made-up charge, it would get him a lighter sentence. The fact that Mueller has asked the court to sentence him to 4 years, tells me that Cohen never delivered the info on Trump that he promised. I saw an article earlier today on The Liberty Daily where Alan Dershowitz said basically the same thing. I think Mueller's sentencing request is all about revenge on Cohen for not giving Mueller what he wanted.
“A candidate is forbidden from spending campaign money for personal purposes, but he can spend his own money to do so, and it is perfectly legal. “
You are right, but Trump didn’t spend his own money. Cohen used a home equity loan to make one payment, and then got money from AMI (National Enquirer) for the other.
They are going to impeach bet the farm. This would be a good time to finally go on offense President Trump and l dont mean tweets.
And another question is: will the GOP finally defend the President or stand by while the Rats and MSM continue to shove knives into Trump?
Haha haha. They have already taken America. We are in the death throws. We elected the President and they didnt like our choice......it has been non stop attack on WE the American people, not Donal trump, but WE the people. Frankly, I havent seen any fight back and we never will.
There were people back in the Clinton years who said the democrats may one day regret standing by Bill Clinton. I think this is the time. IF, AND THAT’S A BIG IF, there are any republicans who have grown any.
The problem is all the republicans KNOW the DS will make them disappear while Trump will only slap them on the risk and say “I need some help.” I’d bet most of them will cower and do what the DS tells them to do. Very sad.
” I think Mueller’s sentencing request is all about revenge on Cohen”
Clearly.
But it was probably a double cross from the start. Mueller knows it’s a big stretch to make a private matter a “campaign finance violation”, but that’s the problem with what he’s doing: he extorted a vulnerable victim and he never planned to give the guy a break.
So spending money on a pack of iies called a “dossier” to influence an election is ok?
I’m very sick of our two party system because in effect they are a bought and paid for one party. And they work for those who paid and it isn’t We The People they give a $hit about.
I just don’t know how we can replace our system...and they’ve dumbed down and bribed the voters with out tax money to the point we can’t rely on voting them out.
Trump is our best and probably our only shot.
The person giving the money is acting under duress. The person taking the money is the key operator. Its called blackmail.
This is simply not true. But here is the Dems impeachment scenario.
Bull. They made up a fake charge to a non-crime that Cohen pleaded guilty to in plea deal. Trump did nothing illegal.
Influencing an election that sure covers a lot of ground-in fact as much ground as prosecutors think it should cover. Now the common sense interpretation would be money used directly to influence voters as in campaign ads, mail outs, and rallies. Since it is difficult to show that a NDA which was not known by the voters could have swayed their decision and influenced their vote. So just who did the agreement influence? The only people it influenced would be the people directly parties to that agreement.
The minute the gavel drops for the next congressional session in January. The Republicans need to call a vote immediately to impeach the president. That should be the very first vote. Don’t let the Democrats drag this out for months or longer. Get it to the Senate where it will not pass. Heck, it may not even pass in the house, but get it out of the way. Don’t let the Democrat control this.
Actually it is - if they decide that all of that is a felony - Its disqualification for holding the office of president.
