I am looking to shed all things Google, starting with my gmail account. I opened it in 2007 with the thought that I would have it for decades as Google was a behemoth of a company which would not disappear and which could be trusted.
But alas, I now have not an ounce of trust in Google. So much is tied to my gmail account that I want to make a move to a company which will 1) stand the test of time and 2) can be trusted.
I am quite sure I am not the only person thinking this way at this point in time. Every day something comes out about this company which makes me sick to do any business with them. Already made Bing my default search engine.
Any ideas?
I’m in the process of leaving Yahoo. They’re obnoxiously left wing.
some suggestions I got from someone who seems to know the subject:
1. cancel G mail and do not use Chrome in the meantime
2. Use “Protonmail”; owned by Swiss Company that will not compromise your email under any circumstances
3. use startpage@startpage.com
4. use “Brave” which is faster than Chrome with no advertisements
GMX.
I use it in canada for some bank stuff. Right now Im ashamed to say mail.com, owned by the AP so I get those MSM stuff. At least I dont use Yahoo etc.
I just found out Siri on iPhone is powered by Google. Google pays Apple $9billion a year to be their provider
Proton mail. Remember
aol.com
You can access it via the internet, don’t have to actually download the application.

mail.com has been reliable for me
Trust Google with your info and E-mail?... Nope
Trust any of the rest of them with same... Nope
Sadly.
So do you live in a cave??

It is what it is. We’re excepting a service with all of them. Google and the rest are all getting everything they think they can out of the deal and they’re not into giving us free anything. Bottom line is... If the service is “free” then there has to be something in it for them. Google is a data mining operation. I would wager all of the other free services are too to some extent.

I’ve been looking at ProtonMail as well; also SCRYPTmail, HUSHmail, and Tutanota.
But I don’t believe that anything is really *secure*.
My ol’ Granny always said that you should never write anything in a letter that you wouldn’t want to see in a newspaper. I think that goes for email, too ;-)

Whatever email you choose ..always have a different email as backup.
ProtonMail
They are based in Switzerland. Your emails are encrypted. A modest fee, but no ads. And for someone to get your history on ProtonMail, they first have to secure the permission of a Swiss court.
They have a starter account that is free, but storage is relatively limited. Great for a trial run though, and adequate for many.
“ProtonMail is incorporated in Switzerland and all our servers are located in Switzerland.”

‘Our’ servers, eh? Well let me thank you for a very positive experience with Protonmail. Clean, to the point and secure.
ANYONE who has duties of confidentiality should consider you guys.
