UN Panel Decides America Owes Black People Reparations for 'Racial Terrorism' of the Past
Independent Journal Review ^ | July 31, 2017 | William Vaillancourt

Posted on 08/11/2017 2:19:51 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A 2016 report by a U.N.-affiliated group found that the United States's history of slavery and racial segregation warrants reparations for African Americans.

The United Nations' Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent concluded that “the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent.”

The group drew comparisons between lynchings of earlier decades and contemporary police killings. It recommended “urgent action” through “improving the reporting of violations involving the excessive use of force and extrajudicial killings by the police.”

This conclusion was reached after a fact-finding mission in Washington in January. The group's recommendations are non-binding, yet echo a similar call for reparations by a coalition of Caribbean nations, the main tenets of which the United States should adopt, according to the U.N. group.

“Past injustices and crimes against African Americans need to be addressed with reparatory justice,” the group declared in a statement. Reparations could take the form of “a formal apology, health initiatives, educational opportunities, an African knowledge programme, psychological rehabilitation, technology transfer and financial support, and debt cancellation.”

Awareness should also be raised through monuments, education, and memorials that are accompanied by “acts of reconciliation," the group detailed. This would work to counteract "the dangerous ideology of white supremacy [which] inhibits social cohesion amongst the United States population.”

I agree. Lets take all of the money the US pays to the UN and give it to Black Churches.

Slavery apparently only started on July 4th 1776 in America.

without colonial history, most of the world would still be cannibalistic and living in caves, and the UN wouldn’t exist

Roman slaves could own other slaves.

The racial terrorism inflicted on whites by blacks for the past 8 years zeroes it out.

And if Hillary were President, you can bet your bottom dollar that we would be PAYING AND PAYING AND PAYING for whatever the UN dictated.

Our country has been trying to give them a good education and jobs for the last 50 plus years but, for the most part, they have continually refused to accept either.

If they allow themselves to be well educated and can then get good jobs the victim thing goes right down the drain.

This country has spent billions of dollars trying to get blacks to act and be equal. For the most part, they refuse.

Shouldn’t the UN get Egypt to pay reparations to the Jews since they were held as slaves long before American slaves? Or how about reparations from the Muslims of North Africa for the Europeans who’s ancestors were captured and held as slaves?

And just what does the UN plan to do to the countries whose citizens started the slave trade to begin with? You know, those Africans who captured and sold their own people to the traders?

hmmm... maybe we can all self-identify as Black. Shaun King and Rachel Donezal showed us the way.

Oh, puleeeze! How about all the other aggreieved groups, Armenians, Jews, non-commie Russians etc.

This is just designed to stir up dissension within America. Typical UN.

Lincoln hated slavery, and was an abolitionist. Douglas advocated slavery. You might find the Lincoln-Douglas debates an interesting read. However, Lincoln did say he would accept slavery if it would keep the union together but that is not the same thing as supporting it. However, he also strongly believed this country was weakened by slavery (just as our nation is weakened today by outsourcing our industrial base to slave-like countries such as China, and our professional jobs to impoverished countries such as India.) If the south had been allowed to leave the union it soon would have soon been under the English Queen (Victoria) as it did not have the industrial base to defend itself against the might of the British empire. And with the fall of the south to English rule, the north might have fallen as well even though it was much richer. There was much more at stake than just ending slavery, the country was divided and falling apart. Lincoln did some things that we condemn him for them but we should not, there was much at stake. I fear that Pres. Trump is going to make compromises and do some things that we are not going to like in an effort to keep this country together as we are under assault in so many ways. It is going to be difficult to save this country. I hope that he can do it but I am not sure we can be saved. But maybe God has other plans, and will give us one last victory over the evils we face, before the end comes. Anyway, I hope so.
