DEAR MEXICAN: I'm a Canadian woman who has been travelling to Mexico (Guanajuato y Oaxaca, the cute places) lately. I travel alone and want to understand the "social" rules a little better. I was told by an expat American living in Mexico that Mexican men think all American women are sluts. (I assume that generalization extends to canadienses.) His theory is that Mexicans see television shows like Sex and the City and think it's reality. I'm acutely aware of this when interacting with Mexican men, and as a result am somewhat guarded, which I really don't want to be. I'd like to be able to meet Mexican men on the same terms as Canadians—sure there's a possibility of a little steam, but maybe we're just platicando, amigo-like. What are your thoughts? Do mexicanos think we're all sluts? If so, why? Do Mexican women/girls save sex for marriage? Does this mean I can never have casual sex with a Mexican man again, for fear of perpetuating a stereotype?

for one, look at the women that the media choose for the population to know about. For example, not a day goes by where we don’t hear about a kardashian - total slut but revered as a saint. Then you flip to the other side, Sarah Palin is a stand up, real woman, but is portrayed as a bitch in the media.
it is the media that is having the war on women, and then they are smart enough to blame republicans, who are too dumb to point out the truth.

This must be a nightmare for Mexican females in my area, as they are the employees of choice for many businesses.
All Mexicans men think that they’re Grandees. Plus,most of their women need license plates for their rear ends!
Lived for five years in NM back in the 80s. My wife was good friends with several Hispanic women, families whose residence went back in some cases to before 1600.
Without exception they wanted their daughters to marry “anglos.” They believed Hispanic men, usually with the exception of their husbands, were unfaithful and likely to beat their wives.
A lot of elitist reprobate republicans aren’t too dumb, they are just closet democrats. Took me a little while to catch on to that.
And after spending years in the UK and mid-east: rap videos and Jerry Springer were their favorite entertainment.
They ALL feel that what they see on Springer and in rap vidoes is America.
This is an absolutely true statement. They believe they have the right to fool around if they wish. Even TALKING about whether their woman/wife can do so is an open door to violence.

my daughter is in missions in Nicaragua and Guatemala and states that marriage down there does not have any component of fidelity for the males.

Clearly the author and many of the FReepers on this thread have never seen Mexican/South American soap operas, which are popular with both Hispanic men and women. It is clearly a cultural and sexual thing and has nothing to do with race.
