Someone (YOU) needs to go back and look at the stats for that year. Simply stated: the Chicago Bears were nothing more than the best team in the worst division in the NFL the year the "Lovie Smith" Bears made it to the Super Bowl.
I'll also remind you that the Bears LOST that Superbowl to none other than the New England Patriots. Lost *BADLY* I might add. Do you remember the losing score? I do, it was an EMBEARASSMENT!
That losing score simply proves my first point: That year the Chicago Bears were nothing more than the best team in the WORST DIVISION of the NFL. Period. Look at the records.
SNORT!!! And to think that worthless SOB lives 1.5 miles from me. (.5 miles straight west, 1 mile south.) I can drive to his house in less than 3 minutes. (Not that I will.....)
Agreed. Cutler is not the answer. However, it would be helpful if they gave him more than 2 and half seconds to throw. He was one of the most sacked Quarterbacks in the league again. They just don't have a decent offensive line. The injury to Carimi last year and the illegal hit that cost them another starting lineman really hurt.
Also, the linebacking corps has become older. Urlacher's age and injuries cost them in the end. Taking their cue from the late papa-Bear George Halas, Management were cheapskates when they let Dave Duerson go via free agency. Then he burned them in the Houston game. Even so, Lovie Smith should have been able to find a way to win against Seattle at home. That loss cost them the playoffs.
Lots of failure to go around.
Better call Eric Holder
Ask the Raiders
Point of information, it was against the Ind. Colts and Peyton Manning. The big story was that it was the first time two black coaches faced off in the Super Bowl. It was the year of Rex Grossman and for some unknown reason, Lovie stayed with him.
You sure seem to be the “whiney little b**ch”
On this point, we won't argue. Yes, the problem is the Front Office. The same Front Office that hired Lovie Smith.
The same Front Office that spent $30 million dollars for a mediocre (I'd say less than mediocre based on how the rookie QB's in the league have performed this year!) quarterback and spent all of $5 on a front line to protect him!
The same front office that the McCaskey family keeps meddling with and not letting them do their jobs.
I will never forget the day that milquetoast limp-wristed closeted homo Michael McCaskey got on TV and declared "The Bears need one player. One magical player called a quarterback. All we need is a magical quarterback and we'll win."
That may not be an exact quote, but it's pretty damn' close. So you look at the deal Jay Cutler got, $30 million dollars worth - and what do the idiots spend on a front line to protect him? $5 from what I could tell.
You're right, and I've said for years all the Bears problems start in the Front Office and are heavily manipulated by McCaskey. Still, that's the front office that hired Lovie Smith and should've fired him 4 or 5 years ago but didn't.
Any guesses why they didn't? The failed Superbowl isn't the reason they didn't fire him. Look how quick the Bears fired Ditka after he got them to a Superbowl - AND WON.
How’s this: Go F*** yourself, bitch.
You know, I had Colts in my head and typed New England Patriots. My (very) bad. You're correct.
(Boy, this turning 50 a few weeks ago had really sucked!)
“I’ll also remind you that the Bears LOST that Superbowl to none other than the New England Patriots.”
I’m not 100% sure about this but I do believe that the Chicago Bears lost to the Baltimore Colts that year, 29 - 17.
Ask the Vikings (Dennis Green).
Ask the Cardinals (Dennis Green).
Ask Nancy Pelosi [ha!] (Dennis Green).
No, it was Bears vs. Patriots in 2008. Superbowl XLII.
Anyway, Lovie Smith is just another in the string of mediocre coaches the Bears have had since McCaskey fired the great Mike Ditka.
I think Fran Tarkington went to about 4 Superbowls and never won....
“The Seattle Seahawks, win today and they will be one of the Wild Card Teams.”
The only thing I have to say about the Seattle Seahawks is that the head coach is a liar and one or more of the following:
1. The most effeminate male I have ever seen.
2. Maybe he doesn’t yet realize that he is gay.
3. A closet gay.
4. Might come out of the closet soon.
Ah, the good old days! Da Bears!!
That was the Mike Ditka Bears though, and it was 1985. Best Defense I ever saw. Richard Dent was the Superbowl MVP. Walter Payton finally got his Superbowl ring . A very fun year.
No. It was Bears vs. Patriots in 1985, Superbowl XX. Bears WON that one 46-10.
Lovie Smith is no Mike Ditka. Not even close.
