After a week of what was thought to be respectful, even remorseful, silence on the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shootings, the NRA took to the podium this morning, with shall we say, both barrels blazing. National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre addressed the media in Washington D.C. with the message that the only way to keep our children safe is to put armed security guards in schools. From the press conference transcript:
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Its an old message gun advocates have stuck by after mass shootings as far back as the Jewish Community Center day camp killings in 1999. But even armed officers at schools can't always stop gunmen bent on destruction. As Daily Kos reports, there was an armed deputy onsite at Columbine High School, and yet he was not able to stop Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold from opening fire on their classmates.
Polls show that public sentiment has swayed in the past week toward greater restrictions on gun sales, and while the NRA briefing was taking place in the capitol, another gunman went on a shooting spree in Pennsylvania, killing four people -- including a woman decorating a church for a children's Christmas party.
But LaPierres words made it clear that for a certain segment of America, the deaths of 26 little kids and teachers is not a rallying cry for unity and reform of gun laws, but rather an incident thats making them dig their heels in the sand even more.
LaPierre insinuated that others tried to exploit tragedy for political gain and that President Obama had not done enough to protect schools. Violence, he insists, is the result of violent video games...

Many communities have volunteer fire fighters, why not have volunteer guards from retired police or military from the community? The guards dont even have to show the weapon, it could be kept concealed.
You can’t do that!!
How could the gummit spend millions, which always turns out to be billions, and Janet Nepolitano show her expertise?
If the feds get involved, it will be Homeland Security. We sure don’t want that.
But you do have a good common sense idea. Too bad that common sense is totally unacceptable today.
We already have guns in our schools, moron! Whether we want them or not.
Just ask the 26 families from the Sandy Hook School.
I just have to roll my eyes wondering what this Mensa member would be hysterical about banning, had the killer used an assault kitchen knife; an assault machete, an assault axe, an assault brick...
Yep, common sense is seen as subversive these days.
I love that picture, I hope you post it all over the internet.
This picture would reach a large portion of the public who are most likely to be afraid of guns, the female citizens. This picture goes against the liberal antigun sterotypes because it shows a young mother casually carrying a rifle on her shoulder with many young children around her not being at all intimidated by the gun.
The liberal half of America needs to see lots of this kind of picture to conteract the liberal media propaganda. Check on Michael Savage, on page two there is a picture of him and his friends when they were part of their highschool rifle team. They are all carrying rifles to school, none of them went crazy and shot anyone.
A couple of easy ways to make schools safer would be to replace the glass doors with metal doors. I believe that the killer shot out the glass doors and forced his way in. Another simple safety proceedure would be to have locks on every school room door.
Better than dead children which is what liberals wanted.
"We get to push our agenda! We get to push our agenda."
H*ll yes, I want guns in the hands of the good guys to stop the bad guys. If these brain dead stupid libs think gun free zones are so great, then I demand equality. Start with Congress and declare them gun free, and send the security guards home.
Seriously, how long will it be before the terrorists have a 9/11 attack on our nation’s schools? They do it in other countries all the time.
It is way past time to take security of schools seriously and quit letting our children be sitting ducks.
If guns are so bad in schools, why do they call on police to come with guns once a shooting incident occurs? Won’t more guns make the situation worse?
I can’t help but believe that if we had armed protectors in the schools even the mentally unbalanced would think twice before attempting a assault. It is always thought provoking when you don’t know who is carrying and who isn’t.
