A series of sexually explicit e-mails sent by the superintendent of the Des Moines, Iowa public schools triggered her abrupt resignation last month, and subsequently cost the 57-year-old educator her new post atop the Omaha, Nebraska school system.
The correspondence exchanged by Nancy Sebring and a man with whom she was having an extramarital affair were sent via her school e-mail account, a violation of the system's Internet-use guidelines. Many of Sebrings racy e-mails were sent during the workday (and were sent/received on devices owned by the Des Moines school district).

"Heated discussion" just about covers it.
So I guess this means they weren't practicing safe sex? (fellatio, cunnilingus, anilingus, anal penetration to mention a few).
And they were both married to other people.
And she sent the emails on school computers...

What’s the big deal? It’s just about sex between two consenting adults. no sarcasm tag either. At least it wasn’t a student.

I mean, except for all of the other tax brackets.

Technically, you’re right. But which of us has not taken a company pen home, used a company phone to make a personal call?
She must a been a Republican and got burned, not to mention embarrassed. If she were a Democrat, it would have been a career enhancement.
She is out of a job, marriage is probably on the rocks as well, I hope there are no children that have to suffer through this mess.

What I am not getting is why they (the authorities and/or school administrators) went ahead and shared the emails with the world. If they have to fire her for sending emails on school computers (seems a tad harsh to me, considering all other disciplinary measures available) they can go ahead and do it - especially if it some sort of stipulation that has firing as the stated remedy - however why distribute said emails? That is unusual. Leaving it at 'she sent torrid emails' would have been sufficient, but releasing the emails is simply going too far. She was quite foolish writing them in the first place, especially using the school's equipment, however why were they released?

Her emails were requested by someone in the media. They must have open records laws, and the school system had no choice but to release them. The media published them.

Can’t believe how dumb people are to think that company computers are safe to carry on conversations.

What our government officials do on our dime...make that...on our dollars plural...and our equipment is an "open record"...available for open perusal upon Freedom of Info requests by MSM and local media alike.
