Just because science has not discovered a genetic basis for homosexuality does not mean the premise is flawed. You would presume that genetic science on this and other cause-and-effects is settled and complete? It is not.
I believe in our lifetime, science will find a biological basis for homsexuality. (Although there may also be cases caused by behavioral conditioning and sexual abuse, even personal choice, etc)
Those of us who have had homosexuality “run in the family”, or know other families where it runs from generation to generation, sometimes for many generations dating back a century or more (known), know that something is inherited or passed along .... whether is a gene or a brain chemistry or brain structural abnormality, a predisposition. Ditto with inherited depression, bipolarity, schizophrenia, other conditions that originate from the brain.
And that it manifests at a very early age.
I also believe homosexual activists may not want science to discover this because it could lead to pre-birth extermination, as is happening with Downs babies.
However, scientists have been looking for such a cause for a long time, and so far they have not found any evidence. Maybe they will find it later.
I will say this -- if a genetic marker for homosexuality is found, the people who carry such a baby to term, and raise it and love it, will tend to be Christian fundamentalists like Sarah Palin. The people who choose to abort the "less-than-perfect" child will tend to be Liberals who support homosexual marriage in order to feel good about how "tolerant" they are.
The author of this piece is claiming some sort of high moral ground, to which he has no rightful claim.
So then you I assume you also expect to find a genetic basis for bisexuality, pedophilia, bestiality, rape, murder, etc Just as there are many studies that infer that homosexuality may have a biological basis, I have also seen many studies that claim the same for other sorts of behavior as well. The fact is that homosexuality is a behavior just as these other actions are.
What you say is surely possible, but even if a genetic factor is found that pre-disposes a person does not make unconditional acceptance and mainstreaming into society the answer.
I believe we have found that there is a genetic predisposition to alcoholism (another behavior pattern that is thought to be “bad”) but that does not mean we accept is as a normal and non-harmful situation.
We don’t “hate” alcoholics (unless, perhaps, you happen to have been involved in a poisonous relationship with one for years) but we DO hate the condition. Like cancer.
I see the same parallel with what is, in my opinion, the inherently unnatural, destructive and selfish nature of homosexual relationships.
Does that mean they don’t love each other, or that they are evil people? No. What it does mean is that we should not elevate those people and their relationships to the moral and structural equivalent of heterosexual relationships and the family union between a man and a woman with children or the possibility of children.
