Whatever one thinks about Barack Obama's term in office to date, it is certainly true that the election of a black man to the White House represented the bright and free and enlightened facet of the American Dream.

Remember that when Obama's policies continue the decline of the once-great US economy and by extension your own Irish economy. Hope that thought keeps you nice in warm at night!

OHHH!!! I have Always been torn, the Catholic in me sympathizes with Ireland over the very troubled history with them and Catholic/Protestant issue, but the British in me allows be to dislike the Irish for always being a problem.

Then this story pops up and my mind is decided for me, no wonder they are in such deep trouble if they greet Ubama like a god but Hate Sarah for no good reason, I guess the Irish like the entitlements and being spent into oblivion.

I love how English and Irish think they know so much about America, I guess because they see us on TV.

I've been to England and Ireland several times, even studied some of their history and much of their literature, but I'd never pretend to know with a real degree of familiarity the intricacies of their political culture.

Some of the stereotypes they entertain, including some in this article, are laughable and embarrassing.

Do you people spend all your waking hours trying to find articles by obscure writers (in this case one who isn't even American) who hate Sarah Palin? Why don't you just worry about how she's viewed in Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina and the rest of the primary and caucus states?

I'm not a supporter of Sarah Palin for president but it seems to me that if you spend all your time time looking for hate pieces about her, of which there is no shortage, you're going to start believing that any opposition to her candidacy is the result of hating her. This is why those of us on FR who don't support her AS A CANDIDATE constantly get accused of “PDS”. You see genuine derangement so much because you're actively seeking it out. I stopped listening to the country of my heritage when they elected Bernadette Devlin to parliament. Doesn’t take much to know why the Irish hate Sarah—take a look at the American Irish they like: all the Kennedys, Kerry (if indeed he’s at all Irish), Leahy, Kerry’s congressman-priest Drinan (who got disgraced Kerry into Boston College for a law degree that should have been denied him), the Dalys, Chrissie Matthews’ old boss, even O’Bama! Not that we haven’t had a few decent Irish (all the Buckleys but Chris, Ronald Reagan, Al Smith, Paul Ryan) but as a political lot—especially *over there*—they’re one big, bully union.
