Thanks to the Obama economic failure, this would be a Republican surge year regardless. In most races across the country, the scorned Independents broke for republicans giving them the margin of victory.
Haley and Toomey I'll credit to the Tea Party. Miller is still up in the air.
Past that, looking at the other big Tea Party races:
Rubio won not because of the Tea Party but thanks to the selfishness of Charlie Crist splitting the dem vote. Angle lost to the most unpopular dem senator in the nation, a man who COULDN'T win. Paladino was a humiliating disaster. Rove was absolutely correct: O'Donnell was hopeless, throwing away a senate seat Castle would have almost certainly won.
Not to mention the Hayworth and Devore failures in the primaries.
Overall, the losses substantially outweigh the wins.
Not saying the Tea Party is useless, I don't think it is at all. But dialing down the fantasy it will hereafter control the political dialogue and set the agenda may be a good idea. Just who can throw the most red meat to the base isn't enough.
Senator elect Ron Johnson in Wisconsin was not a politician. He went to a TEA party and decided to run for the Senate. Tonight, he handed Russ Feingold’s ass to him. Hmmmm.
+1
Flippin’ Tard. I mean no disrespect tlb. I have been railing against that fatass Rove all night and that Richard Head Mutt Wrongly.
I think you mean well but, well... it ain’t right.
I mean Rove calls out Christinne, who clearly won as a result of the peoples vote or if you prefer the Proletariat but really, the Tea party is a failure?
Seriously, the Tea Party created the energy to get us over the top and you are dissing them?
Brother, get real.
With respect and regards.
It aint over in california yet!!
It’s past your bedtime, Sen McCain.
“Blindly conservative” ranks up there with “you people”.
you might ought to watch that...mod might fire you up..
I thought they called it. Is it getting closer
have I asked you before but are you the old TLBShow of lore?
anyone else here remember ol Tubby...and I mean that kindly..
I was being nice to him but that’s just funny. LOL.
Tomorrow it begins.
Both of those are troll buzzwords. I guess DU paid our “friend” well.
KMA... RINO!
Forgive me, but I am too angry to listen to some BS about the Teapatrty conservatives being to blame.
You sir are a big pile of smelly DUNG for even suggesting that the Teaparty ids to blame for not winning bigger.
You need to be Zotted, NOW!
IBTZ and I think my first.
One good thing, his nitwit son lost his race.
Fiorina is conceding as I type. Oh well, the GOP establishment candidate goes down. Would have been better if she won, but you can't win them all.
You failed to mention that AZ has an open primary, which means independents can vote in the GOP primary. Most states have a closed primary.
You rock!
tlb I changed my mind.
You are lame and need crutches for your brain stem.
This is the greatest political night of my lifetime. We’ve had a few heartbreaks but that’s part of the game. I don’t think more “establishment” GOP candidates would have done much better against Coons, Bloomenthal, etc. We can’t follow the “lesser of two evils” strategy that’s led us into the wilderness. The Tea Party movement is right to push candidates that actually stand for something. That is the only path that leads to long term victory.
There are certainly critical lessons that the Tea Party movement needs to take away from this experience but all-in-all tonight is a titanic victory for the movement.
This is more than just about Team Rep vs Team Dem, this is about doing ultimately what is most right. The Tea Party was very effective, and I say that as someone who isn't really on the bandwagon. I am surprised, overall, that real Conservatives can even have a ghost of a chance today, but I was wrong, I think the Tea Party have shown that Conservativism is viable even where it was never deemed possible. They need some better candidates, true, but for a bunch of first timers, they did AMAZINGLY well.
That's some pretty shallow analysis.
The Tea Party was a compelling factor in retaking the People's House and helping the Republican Party Gain 60+ seats there.
Also, if you take into account what happened in the gubernatorial races and numerous state legislatures, the Democratic Party got decimated.
You have to be willfully blind to not see the incredible positive influence the Tea Party's energy had in this national election.
Sorry every Tea Party wet dream didn't come true for you, but overall, the results are magnificent!
You appear to have completely overlooked the message conveyed by the TEA Party which appears to have been heard loud and clear - at least at this point in time. IMO, it’s bended knee time to thank God for people who participate in the TEA Party, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Jim Demint, Mark Levin, so many others, those that gave up so many hours to stuff envelopes, knock on doors, man the phones, contribute money and to the candidates who allowed their entire life history to be displayed on the internet and TV to help us begin to take our Country back. And to our military who lays their life on the line every day so that the rest of us can live in a country where we still have a voice and have not yet been relegated to bowing to the East multiple times a day, clad in a burka and saying a prayer in Spanish.
