Black Republicans are not just calling, but emphatically demanding a presidential apology from President Barack Obama for what they are calling a racially insensitive remark he made while campaigning in Rhode Island on Monday.
Words reminiscent of a 1960s racially and emotionally charged and divided country echoed from his mouth as he said, We dont mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for a ride, but they gotta sit in the back. For a president and individual who consistently and successfully avoided race as an election issue, he has single-handedly done a complete about-face with a single sentence.
President Obama struck a racial nerve with his comment Dr. Timothy F. Johnson, head of the National Black Republican Association, explained in an email to Newsmax.com Wednesday that Obama should immediately issue an apology for what was termed an offensive reference to the Jim Crow era.
Johnson articulated his stance by stating, Once again the president is perpetuating the racism that exists and portrayed by the so-called Civil Rights organizations and their leaders. He went on, Americans are sick and tired of these divisive statements the president continues to make.
Leaving no room for doubt about his intent, Johnson added, Our first objective is November 2, 2010. And then, Next is to find the next president of the United States, and retire President Obama to Chicago, Hawaii, or Kenya in November 2012.
These are glaringly strong statements from the leader of the NBRA (National Black Republican Association), even stronger when considering Johnson shares President Obamas ethnicity.
Equally alarming is that others have likewise publically spoken out against the presidents remarks. Monica Crowley, radio show host, author, The McLaughlin Group and Fox News contributor, and Washington Times columnist, based in New York, also shared her concern and ire. She asked, What if a Republican president had made such a remark? She added that it would have caused a political firestorm from Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
Crowley explained on Fox News, "I think after the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, riding in the back certainly does have some Civil Rights and racial overtones to it, and you can't tell me the president of the United States wasn't aware of it when he said it." She went on to say, "I found his comment there appalling. I found his refusal to address it in a straightforward way also appalling."
Her final eye-opening and thought provoking comment was that Hes the president of the United States. The president is supposed to be the president of all the people, even those who disagree with his agenda and who disagree with him.
As Senator Barack Obama in 2006, he presented himself as a courteous, intelligent and sincere man. Oprah Winfrey openly supported his presidential-ness, both occupationally by inviting him as a guest on her very successful daytime talk show, and financially by contributing to his election campaign fund. At that time, it appeared the political weather forecast would be smooth sailing ahead.
Along the way, however, his demeanor and actions began to change. Once elected president in 2008, followed by his taking office in January 2009, a different captain was sailing this ship called America.
President Obamas tactic of inciting Black voters to vote by lighting a racial fuse could very well backfire and fuel an opposite and equal or greater reaction of disgust by enraged voters and politicians alike across the country. This approach significantly contrasts with that of the late Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. as he fought for civil rights and equality by peaceful and 'civil' means.
The perfect storm now appears to be growing and is scheduled to hit the mainland on November 2nd. Batten down the hatches and prepare to take cover. It looks like this storm is going to be cataclysmic.
Mr. President: We paid for the ride. We'll sit where we want.
He’s just begging for a nationwide riot, isn’t he?
Don’t bother with the apology. He needs to leave office.
Words escape me, words from the mouth of the pretend leader of the free world.
“We dont mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for a ride, but they gotta sit in the back.......
Really?.....After Tuesday we’ll see who’s sitting on the roof....
yas sur boss.
Its true. They hadn’t perfected ear-bud technology yet.
The early transistors were whittled from cedar.
He knows nothing of the struggles others went through but he tries to wear them on his sleeve. He grew up a street brat in Indonesia and found it interesting that he was able to rise up to become President of the United States.
He spits on the indignation whole segments of society endured and mocks those he disagrees with in the ugliest of terms.
Funny, don’t tell him who invented the bus, it would ruin his world view. Just sayin.
Well said.
I’ll bet he’s more Arab than black.
Beyond his idiotic remarks, I find it apalling that the media hasn’t even called him on this. Utterly rediculous.
"Effective immediately, I resign the office of President of the United States".
Obummer it is time for you to go under the bus and stay there. The way you ar going the uS will be back in the 1920 - 1950s. The moron needs to go under the bus and stay there
Wonder if his birth certificate shows his name as Barry.
Journolist-gate showed that 400+ journalists are in Obama's pocket and will NOT speak ill of the fence post turtle.
The Rev Wright graduate school or racial supremacy endorses the message of the President.
All I can say is “wow”...and there goes 50 years
